So it was wet out, in a best buy parking lot and no cars around at all. So i decide to do some drifting. Except i think i went a lil over board because i kept sliding until i hit a curb (LOL) I hit it straight on. No flat tires, but the right side of the car seems to be affected. When i start it up in the morning now it sounds like metal clattering together by the right side of the wheel. Also, it feels like something is rubbing when i'm going between 0-30mph. Can feel it by how the steering wheel feels (know what im saying?) Any help would be great!

Thanks
-Jason-

check the frame too, I hit a curb hard once and the axle completely flattened and almost cut through the frame where the axle goes through. It tooka couple hours on the frame puller to get it worked out and then welded up. Luckly I worked there so one of the guys did it for me after work for like $100.

Okay, it was more like I made out w/ the curb and its now having my baby. My car spun and smacked into the curb on the back passenger side and totally killed my rim, broke the tie arms, lower control arm, strut mount, upper control arm and everything else that bolts on to the frame and body. It also tweaked the crossmember that the lower suspension bolts to. I checked everything and it appears that the frame may be undamaged and I can fix this myself w/ junkyard parts. However, how can I make sure the frame is not damaged? Is there like a set of measurements I can take or do I just put everything on and hope it drives straight? Oh, and no need for any sympathy, I'm an idiot and I know it. Live and learn right...

Ive never needed to do this before, and even if it comes out right, your frame might still be tweaked, so dont quote me on any of this..

just like if your building a deck, take a piece of string or a measuring tape and find a common point on the front and the back of the car, one on each side, near where your afraid it might be tweaked...
if the distance from the front right to the back left is the same or really really really close to the distance from the front left to the back right, then those four points you measured from are square in relation to one another.

i say check from the lower bolt on the shock struts, but if i read that post right your missing one, maybe recheck it after you slap the junkyard parts on...

I have been driving AWD/4WD for 20 years, but still got stupid last night and turned a corner too fast on the ice. Same story. Tire hit curb and it is about 1" from the right side of the wheel well.

Obviously the 2 lower control arms are whacked, but the upper looks OK. Did you have to replace the upper one too?

i hit my rear left side on the curb. i think it's my control arm. the one in yellow broke off. what do i have to buy to fix this?? and how much does it cost. perferably used/from junkyard or from fellow dsmer.

If the yellow brok off from the red area looks like you will need a whole new or used hub assembly.

I would just get a new one...some things I don't mind cheaping out on, but for that I would make sure its working 100%. I've got an extra whole control arm/spindle/hub in my garage from my GSX, but I wasn't able to get the axles out so I just replaced everything. You might be able to take it to a machine shop and have them push out the axle if you want. Otherwise check the junkyard around you. I think that the arms are the same between all 2gs and possibly sebring/avengers as well if that helps you, as those parts might be easier to find. At my local u-pick it, they had a sebring in and they looked exactly the same. Maybe someone you knows better can confirm this.

so what exactly is the thing called that i just broke that i have to buy

sorry for being such a newb

so what exactly is it call that i have to buy. and is there any other car that i can pull it off of at the junkyard besides a 2g . and any idea how much it will cost?? can i get it of a any 2g or just the gst. or can i get it from a 2gn/t or awd? what can i do??

well i was taking a corner at 20mph, and my cotter in decided to pop out of the tranny shiftcables. i looked down for a second, misjudged the turn and hit the outside curb at 20mph-ish.
the car still steers fine no sounds, rolls fine, turns fine. only problem is i have a thud or a clunk everytime i go over bumps now. its like i have no suspension? i can feel even the smallest bumps now. its just the one side (drivers front). i feel the clunks in my clutch pedal too meaning it may be my top motor mount. i might have to replace this asap.

meanwhile im gonna get a new front shock.
anyone have any ideas if these could be it?

You definatly messed up your shock/spring. Either you blew out the shock, which it would be leaking oil, or you broke the spring. Which I highly doubt but you never know. Check the shock for leaks and jack the car up to see if anything appears broke.

For the shock, bounce-test it. Sit on the corner of the car you want to test, and bounce on it. Get the body rocking and rolling. If it takes more than two or even three bounces to stop moving again, you may need a new shock on that corner. As noted above, also look for oil.

You may also want to check for play (or even bend marks!) in your lower control arm.

I too hit a curb a while back while i was taking a 90degree turn and I wasn't paying attention at about 25mph. I had a flat tire on the right top wheel and it seemed like my whole strut was pushed in. Took it to a local shop and said that they can move the strut back to its original position but after a while a cracking noise would occur when I would drive off 1st gear and I could hear it coming from that side.

I change the shocks and springs, noise still there. change the upper control arm, noise still there...So now I'm going to try to take it to the dealership and maybe they will have a more accurate idea. Otherwise I don't know what it could be and my other guess would be to replace the whole right side strut but seems like a lot of work...

I didn't hit a curb but I hit a manhole cover that was 6" above ground at night, in the rain, with my candlelight headlights. Ended up busting out that mount plate that holds your shock and spring in place and compressed. It's the part that bolts up to the car. I went to a junk yard and got "new" ones. Since my car came from NY, this is more evident with the cars that get driven on the salted roads and what not.

If you hit a curb you should start with the cheapest possible fix before you work on all new suspension or motor mounts. Quite often when people hit curbs like that the problem can be ball joints or tie rods. Since you said you hear a thud or a clicking noise when you hit bumbs, I am actually leaning towards balls joints because the same thing happened to me. Good Luck

This is what I was thinking. My question is, steering has it become harder to turn the wheel? not difficult. and does the wheel straighten when you accerlerate out of a turn?

If its tough you probably broke the ball joint. This is something you need to do ASAP. I had one break on me going about 20mph. thank god I wasnt on the highway. It also broke my axle.

well if it were the ball joints wouldn't i hear a clicking sound while rolling? also no clicking noises while turning. the steering is the same as before so im leaning towards my steering system being fine. the only problem is the bumps, its a dull thud like the suspension is not absorbing any of the impact. im going to get shocks, but i see no oil leak and physically everything underneath the car looks in good shape (for a 15 yr old car).
