I have 1990 gsx. My supporting mods are: Se Srp Pistons, hks 272 cams, sheet metal intake, i kept the 1g big rods but added arp bolt's, 255 pump, 1250cc fic blue max injectors, precision sc44 turbo, tial 35mm waste gate, stock 1g bov crushed, fmic short route, stage 3 trans, stage 3 clutch, 4 bolt rear end, straight 3 inch exhaust, sheet metal intake, titanium valve springs, 3 angle valve job. Also have aem wideband, boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, eprom with chip made from ostrich and on board data logger. Im looking to get about 500hp.

My question is would I be ok with the car as my daily driver if I dont beat on it or race it at the track? Reason I ask is because i recently got into a accident and totaled out my daily driver.

Also would like to know if any one else has a high hp car as there daily driver? If so have you ran into any problems?

I have a fully built GST with pretty much every bolt on mod minus the intake, and its the most reliable car ive ever had. i think youll be fine :thumb:
oh and btw I havent really run into any problems. Maybe little things here and there like a plug coming loose or a dead battery haha

Sure, if you don't beat the piss out of it, and keep up on maintenence things you should be good to go. I daily drove evey dsm i've owned, and other than a neon they are the only car i've owned so you will be ok.

you said sheet metal intake twice

it all depends on you i could daily drive my talon with a four puck unsprung and solid motor mounts it doesnt bother me but to some ppl this would bother them

Ok Iv asked other people and they have said that it wont be good as a daily driver, so I thought id get other peoples opinions who own heavly moded cars.

Cars (usually) only break when they aren't maintained or when you are beating on them. So unless you are gunning it every stop light and have a heavy foot, you should be fine.

I got a 98GST SPYDER. Its my only means of transportation. I have driven it all over the country. Got 180K miles on it and its all OEM except for a few minor mods. Keep up the maintenance and you should be good no matter how much modding you do to it.

500whp is a high hp car....youve effectively tripled the output of the stock motor, that is high horsepower.

I daily drive my 92 talon tsi awd and its putting 521 to the tires. with a forrester race intake, PTE SC6131 ball bearing turbo, 1000cc injectors, Fully built bottom end, shep stage 3 trans, and Shep transfer, 33x12x3 frontmount, custom short route pipe, and 3.5" exhaust. It use alittle more fuel than i would like for a daily.I know The fuel thing is gunna happen with that kinda power. Just check your fluids daily, and Put a wrench on the important bolts ( bellhousing bolts, valvecover bolts, other items that can lead to leaks or possibly vibrate loose) at least once a week. Basically if you take care of it It will last.

My car is now right around 500whp, and soon to be 550whp after it's actually tuned on the new setup.

I daily drive my car and it sees quite a bit of spirited driving. It's very good to me as long as I do necessary maintenance and don't do plain stupid things.

I know lot of people who try and do the work them selfs, and in which they know what there doing. But the matter of the fact is there always using used parts, and they drive it like they stold it. They all tell me its not good to have a highly modified car as a daily driver. Thats why i made the thread just to see how reliable other peoples cars are. The results are turning out good, im liking what im seeing.

I DD my car, track it, drag race it and do occasional for fun rally event things with the dirty imprezza guys.

Solid other than little BS things and broken drivetrain parts. But then again, I don't grandma the car everyday, I drive it like a 18yr old kid with a vette trying to impress the chicks. Last "breakdown" would be 2 months ago, snapped rear axle at the drag racing. And before that....dont remember how long ago, but killed 2nd gear syncro.

i got a 3rd and 5th slight grind i was told that there is a cable system and i can adjust it on the fly?

It's nice to hear from someone who admits to beating their car like a redheaded step child from time to time.:thumb:

Its subjective, to some people 200whp maybe high horsepower, to others 1500whp is high horse power. Around my area, 700-800whp is average.

To the original poster, I see nothing that is saying race car in that description. As long as its tuned properly drive it all day every day.

I like your style :rocks::hellyeah:. Hey some of them 7-800hp cars running arround down there might of been worked on or built by my uncle. Hes out of the detroit/metro area by monrow :thumb:.

To the OP. My uncle drives his 91 awd talon daily. Hes on a dogbox and dyno numbers that would make a few people cry. He randomly gets pulled over for having the chute in the back LOL. Cut out exhaust keeps it fairly quiet when needed to be.
