What would u say i should get...a 2nd gen gst or gsx...

Only reason i ask is cuz an awd car consumes more gas (had an evo8 for about a week and gas mileage compared to my n/t 2g that thing was like a v8). and it is a bit heavier but the weight issue isnt THAT much of an issue becuz it is a fairly small car and its turbocharged awd. im leaning slightly to the GS-T because it is lighter and will consume less gas and is a "highway beast", but traction is an issue and an awd will handle a lot better. when i drove the evo, i could FEEL the awd. it was awesome. best car i've driven in my life. love the way i could handle the corners better than a fwd car and the feel of a better launch. Most of my driving and racing will be done on streets. once in a while freeway. also on a side note, could a stock GSX and GST take a RSX typeS?? thanks for the response. BTW: CAR FOR SALE. LOCATED IN CLASSIFIED UNDER MOST RECENT (1998 DSM ECLIPSE).

Plus keep in mind you don't only get wheelspin while driving in a straight line. I don't drag race much and FWD still annoys the hell out of me.

Yes FWD sucks. It has been mathematically proven that FWD sucks. A powerful FWD car cannot turn properly because of the understeer. Torque steer makes things unstable while accelerating in a straight line. Letting the same two wheels acclerate, and steer at the same time was pretty bad idea (although FWD is much easier to novice drivers). However, those unforunate enough to have an FWD drivetrain (like myself) can make up for these faults by throwing in suspension tuning, and limited slip differentials. This will help alleviate the above mentioned problems. Even though FWD was designed for econo crap boxes, a FWD car can still be competitive and perform well if the suspension is setup correctly. I'm not saying that FWD will ever have more grip than AWD (because it won't happen unless you have front wheels the size of barrel drums) or that it could ever dream about pulling more Gs around a turn than a AWD setup. Also keep in mind, for the price of a properly setup FWD system you could probably afford to buy a whole other AWD car =)

Seriously dude there muct have been something wrong with your car. I love both gst's and gsx's and a highly modded gsx will own the streets. But there is no way a gsx should be dead even with a gst from a roll with exactly the same mods. Physics just doesn't work that way. It takes much less power to move your car than it does to move a gsx. Plus they are heavier. So a heavier car with less whp beat your car. :thumbdown

Your thinking on paper which is a bad thing to do. Unfortunately in read word conditions don't always work out the same way. Not being a jerk here but thats bench racing.

Not true, when you start putting down a lot of horsepower the FWD will lose traction coming out of turns as well. I have a FWD A/T and it would break the tires lose from a 20-30mph roll.

I loved driving my FWD car. I dont' know if it was the FWD or the A/T that made it so fun to drive but I had no problem holding my own on the highways or the twisties. I do like my AWD better but that's my opinion. Keep in mind one of the fastest cars that ran at the shootout this year was a FWD car.

Planning on having a FWD car for a 11 second street car is not really that realistic. Keep in mind that most guys running even high 11s have to use tractioin adders like slicks and wheelie bars for anti-squat. Neither of which will make the car streetable.

Once you get around 300hp in a FWD its so worth it being able todo a burnout whenever you want, it looks pimp driving along at 45mph and laying down some rubber.

personally, the less mods on the dsm the better. I looked for the most virgin/well maintained one possible. It is important to me that the car wasnt abused on. People upgrade turbos for a reason. Also, i want every part i put in my car to be exactly what i wanted.

On the other hand my friend bought a dsm with a 14b already installed and loves it, not one problem with his car either. He woudl argue the other side saying that you save money by buying a car already partially modded. Its really preference in my opinion.

i would buy a car already somewhat modded if there was proof that the car has lived a decent life.. i bought my car new and i doubt with my mods i would have a problem selling it with them.. original receipts, copies of old titles and things like that give a car a lot more credibility than if the guy tells you he thinks the turbo is a big 16g and theres some sort of upgraded fuel pump. its all relative.

Re-read what I posted. A stock powered FWD will lose traction out of corners.

[edit] - Of course, so can an AWD, but it's much easier to spin them with a FWD, or any 2WD for that matter.
