So basically I've been looking for a GSX and haven't had much luck finding one, and what I'm getting at is there is a GST and I was considering just settling for fwd.

My question is why do some people by a GST for time attack instead of a GSX?

So you guys would buy a hard to find gsx then use it as a winter beater? You could get a old toyota/subaru for the winter and a gst for the price of a gsx... just my .02

I agree...I have a 97 Exploder for the winter. The thing I like most about it is that I don't have to care about it.. If I would lose my GSX in a winter accident because someone else slides on ice, I'm going to be pissed...and not easy getting ahold of another one...I don't even drive my GST in winter.

Get the GSX by all means cause it sounds like you won't be happy with anything else but seriously think about getting another car for the winter if you don't already have one to keep the salt off of it and avoid stress of a winter accident or even potholes.

You live in florida bro the OP lives in MI where he cant find one cause the winters ate them all up ..$500 gsx dont grow on trees anyways

I've lived all over the country. Including the Northeast and midwest. Colorado was where I found the joy of an AWD DSM in the snow.

Don't assume where one is, that's the only place they've ever lived. ;) I've been into DSMs for a very long time, and I honestly don't believe I've ever paid more than $1000 for an AWD DSM in my life. I can understand how it would be hard to find in CA because the car scene is so large there, but in MI and NE I've always had great luck finding AWD DSMs. My very first 1G TSI AWD I found in CO when I was 15 for $500. This was back when 2Gs were going for 10-15k.

FWIW though I'm a huge proponent of getting a 'daily' and not having a DSM as your only car. I'd definitely grab some cheap beater to depend on but I wouldn't settle for getting a GST, I'd still opt for the GSX as the fun car.

Depends on what you want. I've got both and while the FWD is a fun little bastard for daily use..I would hate to try to make power on it. On a basic 16G setup at wastegate pressure and evo maps, it spins its ass off. I do prefer the AWD for a number of reasons already covered.

I'd say get both. Eff it. :p

i think everyone would if there budget could afford it ROFL

i love my gst, but i do have a traction problem, cant get any, LOL. The gsx are fun, but are way to over priced. If you buy a gst you could always do the gsx swap.

I thought about that but then also thought that I might just loose interest in converting it to AWD and end up never doing it.

My questions are do you have GSX money because people aren't giving away clean body turn key GSX's these days. So what is your budget and expected condition of the GSX you would like?

Do you want a 2GA ('95', '96) or a 2GB ('97-'99)?

How far are you willing to travel to get it?

I really hope you find a GSX because you'll enjoy it, I enjoy mine (when it's running LOL) but also that you're being realistic while you search.

The op says he cant find one ...maybe lend him a hand n find him one

I've found the best deals by making friends and putting the bug in their ears that I wanted an AWD DSM. Even when I didn't want a DSM, the "buddy network" works pretty damn awesome. Craigslist can work great, but I've found the best deals by word of mouth/friend of a friend.

I think you would be better off looking for an AWD vehicle. There are no issues with getting traction, FWDs are gonna spin when you start making more power. Running M/T et street tires in the fron,t on a FWD car will cure the traction issues, but you will be giving up cornering ability. Go AWD !!

Just be patient and go AWD. AWD will be alot funner daily driven as street tires will still net you good traction. Ive had some NA hondas and traction sucked and daily driving them was fun at a roll but even with lsd and drag radials stop light to stop light was terrible. With my talon a street launch feels great And much better then my honda on a well preped track and drag radials. Hope this helps

Have you been on xceedspeed yet? I know a few MI guys that sell their DSM stuff there. Look for a guy named HondaTyler, he usually always has AWD DSMs up for sale for a good price.

I do go to exceed speed but mostly find project cars or a GST ill try looking up that guy :thumb:

looking for a 2GB around 100k miles maybe like 110k tops and 5speed and as far as traveling, if its a good deal it won't be a problem.

yes i used search tempest and the only decent one i found was a 96 gsx good price and all but I'd prefer 97-99 for better condition and less issues with crank walk is what i read on the forums. edit: forgot to say thanks for that link, it's so useful!

I have seen quiet a few DSM's that caught my attention but even last week someone posted a gsx for sale for about $3500 if i remember correctly and it sold within hours of me leaving school. The guy told me even he was surprised it sold that fast LOL:ohdamn:

also from all your opinions, i'll just wait to get a GSX because my brother drives a 1998 volvo S70 GLT and even when I get on the gas on that car it will burnout also AWD would be fairly fun and safe in the winter.

Owned a GST for years and always found it a fun car to drive for sure. Had the opportunity to drive a GSX and it's pretty night and day. All depends in what you are doing though if you want a drag car find a awd. If it's just for the street and having fun a GST with full exhaust a boost controller and blow off valve will turn some heads and put out close to 235whp all day long!
