I want to purchase a DSM in the near future turbo model 2g. I'm wondering how much of an issue traction in a 250-300 WHP GST would be, or should i dish out the extra money and get a Gsx. I do not plan on going any further with power than that, just bolt ons.

Personally i'd say spend the little extra money on a gsx and down the road you'll see it was definitely worth it! and 90k miles is not bad on a 98 car i'd take it if i were you. A friend of mine and i both bought DSM's at a similar time, i got a GSX and he got a GST and all i hear him saying now is that he just wishes he would have waited and spent a little extra to get a GSX. Just my opinion but i've never heard any GSX guy saying he wants a GST but you hear GST guys wanting GSX's all day long just sayin! :thumb:

i'd jump on this car in tacoma, i asked him if it was AWD, haven't heard back yet.

I'm about 4 hrs from you in spokane if you want me to keep an eye open and look at anything in my area for you. We get AWD's for sale down here all the time.

You could just buy a GST and turn it into a GSX, if you're willing to get your hands dirty. That would be the cheap route. But then comes the problem of sourcing parts to get the AWD....

If i was you, spend more money and get a nice GSX. GST's and GSX's are a PITA to fix if they have been mistreated or neglected.

BTW, I also am the only GSX owner I've found in my state. They are VERY RARE to see around these parts!

I'm not so sure spending the money to convert it is worth it actually. You can usually find a GSX for $1000 more then a GST if even that, for a full swap it would be much more then that as a final product. That is just my my take on it.

Id say you'll be fine you could also think about a quaife lsd in the future if you go gst..Gsx is alot more fun but you got alot of stuff with an awd that can break and will need mantience. Good luck finding a Gsx btw.

LOL the thing none of you people recomending LSD's are mentioning is that a quaife LSD is like 1300 bucks.... get a GSX and put that 1300 tward that. my GSX is my first DSM and im glad i did it. 460 to the wheels and i spin all 4 in the rain 1st and 2nd :) but i try to..:sneaky:

BTW said:
i know of more then 20 GSX/TSI in washington... they seem to be popular :p it would make complete sense that there wouldent be any in RD island... although i live on an island and there are 4 GSX right here with in 20 miles not including mine. that talon looks like a good deal. if all it needs is a tune... tune is 300 bucks at english and at ground vision performance in seattle... id snatch that up ASAP only thing i dont like is the color haha

if it says TSI.. its most likely AWD.. unless someone is being a jackass.

it took me awhile to find my GSt (mine gets a little 't' for having a stock turbo). decent condition for the most part, anything wrong was a simple replacement. I just want some good pulling power like you (250-300 whp) and even though i've just started my journey, it wont take too much to get there, once she's ready for upgrades.

And im yet to see an AWD anything in SD that works.

you should flag his post... a its not a TSI then false advertisement..

IIRC

ESI = N/t

TSI = FWD turbo

TSI AWD = AWD turbo

On topic - GST is great for a DD, good gas mileage, fun highway pulls.. but no cigar when it comes to traction when launching.
