2G Dsm gs, gst, or gsx

Im turning 18 this may and looking to buy a 2g as a gift for my self (i prefer a gsx, and a gst would be fine), i used Facebook's marketplace to find a dsm and saw one for PHP300k(or 6K USD if converted). Seller claims its an 1997 eclipse turbo or basically an gst or gsx but it has a low stock wing, from my research the rear wing of the gst or gsx should be higher than the gs version in 1997 right? Is it because its an local unit from the Philippines? Also the bumper looked different than other 1997 2g's and pictures of the engine bay isn't posted. I really can't trust sellers in my country because one time i saw someone selling their r33 gts-t but naming it an gtr even if it had an rb25 (can provide pictures posted by the seller if needed)

Welcome to the forums, the only advise I can give you is to take your time when buying one of these cars as they are old. Also I would look for a GSX that way in the future you won't have to convert it unless you can't find one. I bought a GS-T and I ended up converting it later on which cost me more money, but finding a GSX in good condition is pretty hard to find or they are extremely far away.

Yeah sorry if i marked Texas dont know how to pick countries here, i do know that old gtrs got rb26's in them but the seller with an rb25 gtst stated that it was a gtr he sorry if you didn't understand English isn't my first language, anyway here are the pics i actually found the same car but different listing and found a engine pic, maybe its the owner's friends who posted other listings. That's either a GST or a GSX. It's really clean looking, the only issue I have with it is that he is not running an air filter!

The 95-96 GST/X's came with the low wing, which is exactly what that is, 97-99 came with the high rise wing. That one also has the 95-96 Headlights and front bumper...but it does have the 97-99 rear bumper. Just go over everything, and test drive the shit out of it.

It has either has a miss match of body parts for whatever reason. Dont rule out the possibility its been wrecked. Or it's not a 97. Vin number will tell you. Owner will have to tell you why body parts dont match.

Also dont rule out the possibility that somebody added a turbo to a gs outside the us a 2g could be had with a 4g63 non turbo. If that's the case was it done right. Vin number again will tell you what is what.

The front bumper tells me this car is a 95 or 96 how ever the CAS is on the left side of the valve cover, the 95 and 96 CAS is under the cam gear, this car has either been motor swapped or CAS swapped. You will need to do your homework on this on before you buy it. This car is not a stock car.

The others have covered most of it, but I'd like to chime in as well. This may not necessarily be a bad car to get, but of course, the more we (you) know, the better the final decision will be.

• Firstly, that is what appears to be an Asian market 2G. They never got the high rise spoiler regardless of model type or year. They did, however, get the orange indicator tailights (the ones without built-in rear fog lights).
• The speedometer will be in km/h and will go up to 180 km/h (unless swapped). The other gauges would be standard (oil press/water temp/boost level/fuel level).
• The VIN plate that can be seen to the left of the battery appears to say "DSM" instead of "Mitsubishi Motors North America". If so, that would imply the car is an early 1995 model. This would match up with the older-style CAS and the pre-facelift bodykit (aside from the rear) like the others have stated. It may be listed as a "1997" model, but registration date is different than build date. Most of the time, the registration date listed in our car's documentation/title might be 1 year later. So don't always go by what year sellers list!
• Things start getting strange here. I don't see a clutch master reservoir/cylinder. For all we know, this may be an auto trans car, but you'd need to get a better interior pic to look at the shifter, or a better engine pic to look at the trans. But based on what I've seen after years of researching the worldwide DSM market, most of the Asian/Russian DSMs come with auto transmissions.
• The engine looks to be a 7 bolt, based on the head notch stamp, so it hasn't been 6 bolt swapped.
• There seems to be no front hood sprinklers/jets for the windscreen. They must have been deleted, as they came on all cars regardless of trim. On US models, the front and rear jets are supplied from the reservoir in the wheel well and behind the trunk rear panel. On EU models, the front jets have a separate reservoir which is under the front right fender. That's where the stock upper intercooler pipe usually goes through on turbo models.
• There seems to be no emissions solenoids on the firewall behind the intake manifold, and there is no MDP mount or sensor on top of the manifold itself. Usually all DSMs have emissions solenoids but only turbo models have the MDP sensor. So this appears to be a GS/Naturally aspirated manifold by the looks of it.
• It does have the stock turbo fusebox, as well as the coolant overflow reservoir. They could be swapped, of course, but based on all the other indications, I'd say this is a factory turbo model for sure. It also seems to have the turbo water lines from the thermostat housing.
• The side mirrors are the USDM ones. This is probably a swap, since Asian/Euro models all came with the foldable side mirrors

All in all, based on these pictures, to me, this looks like an early 1995 GS-T (or GSX if he can show you the diff). It has a few things swapped such as the rear bumper, side mirrors and possibly intake manifold. Again, based on what I can see, it looks to have no clutch cylinder, which means it's an auto. The front end may have been repainted, as the guard plate between the bumper and front structure is also painted in the same color (they always come black).

If you live close to that car, go ahead and check it over. Check for the rear differential (if there is one). Check what transmission it has. Check what gauge cluster the car has. Check the VIN, and if it really is an AWD '95 model, look at the rear brake rotors. Are the ventilated (looking like the fronts), or are they a flat piece of steel?

Hey so i ended up reserving myself an 8th gen galant with an evo 5 4g63T engine in it, assuming the vr4 came with an turbocharged 4g63 he did the swap quite easy, our trusted mechanic said the car is in a good condition. Now long story short is there any way i can change the drivetrain to awd in the future because atm its front wheel drive. Btw the DSM had been in a crash literally a few hours before i came to visit it maybe it isn't really for me then . If anyone know any forums about custom mitsu galants a link would be great! As far as the Galant, the 8th gen Galant VR-4s (1997-2003) ONLY came with the V6 "6A13TT" twin turbo motor and full AWD system, including AYC on some versions. There has never been an 8th gen Galant with an EVO-style 4G63 turbo, so it must definitely have been a swap, but it's very possible that the engine mounts did line up. However, I'm not sure what transmission they put in? Possibly a stock FWD Lancer trans? In any case, you could look for an original VR-4 (or Legnum) to get all the AWD parts from, such as rear subframe, fuel tank and diff/driveshaft, but it will be a hard swap just like swapping a GS-T to GSX would be.
