How many guys have high HP daily drivers I'm talkin 475whp and up, what kind of gas mileage do u get and how is the driveability?

want to show these guys here that it's a real car and not a "TOY" as some of the old schoolers call it

I've heard that lecture a few times from some of my friends with hemis. Apparently it's time to trade my "soda can with a lawnmower engine" in for a "real vehicle."ROFL

But anyway, best of luck on the beast of a DD. I'll hopefully travel down that road after college is done. Ship the GSX back east and use the spyder as a DD while I build a gsx monster. Then have them swap roles after the gsx is drivable. All is so far away though...

I don't know. . . I have a friend thats making 550awhp on pump and 700+ on race and he drives his mom to lunch in it when she's in town. I don't know what kind of mileage he gets in it, but he's driving it from Midland to dsmshootout this year which is like 5 hours. He doesn't seem to have a problem driving it around town, even when he's rocking race gas.

No, I get that it also has to do with other drivers, but how does the HP of YOUR CAR impact the driving style of you or other drivers???? Again, when used correctly, legally, intelligently, no OBJECT is going to put you at any greater risk than any other OBJECT (forgoing the obvious, if you have safety equip removed for weight etc) I never do much above 5mph over the speed limit, whether I'm in a hyundai, or my buddy's vette... I'm not controlled by the car, it's the other way around. What if I just like to get on the Hwy fast. It'd certainly be more fun in a 475hp car than a 210hp car... doesn't mean I have to speed, or break the law, or do it unwisely?...

I bet you're anti-gun because they magically kill people all by themselves too.... ;)

The point is, it's up to the INDIVIDUAL to decide what is DD and what is not, and to make intelligent, reasonable, responsible, LEGAL decisions on how to handle it.

- Done hijacking. Just want to point out that it's dumb to argue that more HP makes an unsafe car. The ONLY validity to that is IF you use it, and the rest of the car isn't built for it. i.e. breaking an axle, and losing controll on the road.

One more edit: what if he only has one car? want's to run it on the strip on weekends, but has to work during the week??? Should he not build it up for his responsible use of it on the weekend because all of the sudden it becomes "unsafe?" just a thought.

You have a very rare gift. Having a 475hp car is like having a sport bike. I was going 80mph before I knew it, and I didn't even mean to. I'm pretty sure if my talon had 475hp, I would be speeding on accident all the time.

I didn't have a dsm as you described but I did have a roughly 350whp honda two years ago. With this kind of power the turbos are usually large enough that you do not spool until 3-4K rpm, meaning that your gas milage does not suffer as long as you drive normally. I was averaging almost 30 mpg on the highway as long as I drove it gently.

However, one thing that i noticed about high HP FWD (i would say all cars but I have never owned a AWD car) is that torque steer/wheel spin gets fairly rediculous. On my del sol first and second gear were pretty much useless and third gear was scary as hell with all of the torque steer. I also had to remove ac and ps but that does not bother me that much. Hope that helps

My car is fwd and I will vouch for it being worthless. At 500whp, it will spin 3rd at any speed when boost hits. Not just screech the tires, but spin to redline like the clutch was slipping. This is with a built tranny and lsd. I will still spin them in fourth but not as badly.

First i would like to address the people arguing about crashes due to driver error or whatever, the fact of the matter is whether its an accident or stupidity by one or both parties shit happens. Every one has seen people who drive like there driving miss daisy get f***ed up it happens. Having a high horse power car only adds that you are going to speed because you would be lieing if you said you didn't unless you want to convince people on this site which consists of questions like how can i go faster, help me i put a part that goes faster and it won't work, if i put this part will i go faster. SHIT HAPPENS deal with it thats how hospitals make there money and why you have insurance( IN CASE SHIT HAPPENS).

Correct me if i'm wrong but you really want to know how well a 400 plus car will drive on the street. Well its like exercise at first it really sucks and you don't want to do it but, it doesn't get better you just get used to it as in if someone else jumped in your car with a six puck disk and 2900 lb pressure plate it will bog out the garage down the street maybe until they get to the highway. As for gas mileage it really depends on how you drive it, my suggestion get yourself a daily driver after 400, because like others say parts will break so its up to you but if you don't care for what i have said remember one thing "SHIT HAPPENS".

I am putting out right around 400-425 horse with a big turbo (Holset HX35) and you are right i spool right around 3500 RPM. Cams= Fast Forward 280 DKS3 regrinds. Highway milage- 28.5 mpg, around town...I will let you know soon haha. with a high horsepower DD putting out 26psi you need to be smart about it. IMO people tha tdrive like ass hats give the good tuners a bad rap. lets try to keep that for the track. But I wont lie I like to his full boost in the on ramp every now and then. But thats on the quick moving interstate. It is all about the fuel map tune. 15.6 AFR for cruising down the highway FTW! other than that fuel economy is all up to your right foot!

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post. My car (at roughly 320whp) was fairly easy to live with. In my (somewhat stupid) quest for more power, I decided to build the head and do some fairly wild cams. This, honestly, was the worst decision of my life. A gain of 30HP was never worth all of the hassles that came with the cams. My once nice sounding car ended up becoming a barely idling, waking the dead monster that was impossible to drive anywhere except at the track. My gf hated the car afterwards, my parents hated the car, and I'm fairly sure my neighbors were planning on killing me after those cams.

I would say that for a FWD car, 350whp is pretty much the maximum amount for a DD. If you drive like an adult and act responsibely, you should be able to use it as your DD. I drove my del sol for almost a year at about 300 whp (through the worst of 2 michigan winters) and never really had too many problems. The clutch was a bit heavy but most of my driving was highway to work and school so it did not bother me that much. Hope that helps

In my opinion I think a maxed out ( pump gas ) 300-340whp evo16g set up with full supporting mods and mild cams and a good suspension set up is perfect for a daily driver especially those with a budget and that power level isnt at the point of stressing a stock bottom end or tranny too much so you could still get some reliability out of it. I cant picture 475whp reliable coming from a dsm unless crazy money was spent to make it so.
And there is a point of too much power for daily driving on a fwd car.
My gst would spin thru 1st and 2nd and torque steer the first 3 gears and I wouldnt consider it safe, especially on a rainy day. Awd kind of makes any hp safe though as long as the suspenion is good.
