Hey guys I'm interested in purchasing an intake pipe and need some help. Im looking for an intake pipe that doesn't have a recirculation fitting but has two holes for the Valve Cover Vent tube and the outlet hose from the stock Boost Control Solenoid. I was going to purchase the FP 4' intake but it doesn't have the any extra holes coming out of it. I have an EVO III 16G and was wondering can I use this intake eBay Motors: Mitsubishi Eclipse Air Intake Systems + K&N Filter (item 200315943043 end time Mar-12-09 09:11:06 PDT)
But I was wondering why has 3 tiny outlet ports instead of two? Can anyone recommend the type of intake pipe I'm looking for that doesn't have a recirculation fitting. BTW I have a 2g spyder gst.

I guess that you don't want the BOV dumping back into your intake? I noticed that this intake doesn't have the BOV fitting. If this pipe has everything you want except that it has the third fitting, you could easily plug that up and not use it.

As most of us should know by now, it's not a good idea to dump to the Atmosphere unless you are running a GM MAS w/MAFT or ECMLink in a blow-threw setup.

The stock ECU already compensates for the added intake from the BOV between shifts and if you take that away you will hurt your A/F ratios, which in turn will give you horrible gas milage by running rich constantly. Many say that it's not enough to make a difference and other's say they're car won't run right or dies at idle. It's up to you to make the right choice.

Feel free to search for "Venting to Atmosphere" and read all the jargin people have to say about it. My suggestion, leave it recirc until you have the supporting mods to do it right. That's what any TRUE DSMer would say.

Also you might want to update your profile. Add anything you may already have and make sure to explain your goals. It will help people a lot when trying to give you suggestions and make the right choices.

The gm mas&maft are on their way to my house . I recently purchased them used off of another forum. So would this be the correct intake pipe for venting to the atmosphere? Also I will definately update my profile to include my mods. I appreciate all the help.

Yes, using the GM MAF and MAFT would be the proper way to vent to the atmosphere.

The Greddy Type-S should have come with a plug for the stock dump hose. If you didn't get one than you should go with the FP 4" intake... I know a couple people that have that intake and they say it works wonders. It is a bit pricey compared to the Injen off Ebay, but it's up to you and your budget.

For the vacuum lines that run off the intake, just run a breather filter for the valve cover. I have a pic of my engine bay in my album for reference. The other lines, I wouldn't know what to do with them, I haven't gotten that far with my setup but check the VFaq for cleaning up the vacuum lines. That will definitely help you out.

If you decide later down the road to go with DMSLink or ECMLink V3 (same thing) than all you would really need it the cable that links the GM MAF directly to your stock MAF harness and you wouldn't need the MAFT. But it's your call, it will still work either way.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Do not do this. This is the line you DO want, just install a catch can of some sort. FP had the option of adding the extra ports you need at one time. If not you can always drill, and tap in a barb fitting. Since you dont need the recirculation fitting, you just need to figure out what ports you want. The three ports are for the valve cover, the charcoal canister, and the stock BCS. Dont wory about the port for the BCS as you should get an aftermarket boost controller. If you dont care about emissions, you dont need the charcoal canister port either. The only port you really want/need is the one for the valve cover.

Without hijacking this thread..... may I ask why you shouldn't just use a breather filter on the valve cover? I have never had a problem with it and it's been on both of my GS-T's. A couple of people told me this was a good fix for oil blow-threw. Are our Valve covers that different from any normal GM V8 that have breather filters?

I noticed on my last GS-T that the line was allowing oil into my intake, through the turbo and through the entire intake track. All of the IC pipes were coated with Oil. I was told it was the PCV valve, so I changed that and it didn't do anything until I put on this breather filter. Now it's working just fine and I have never seen it collect any oil.

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong so I can fix it now. Would it throw off vacuum pressure?

What am I doing wrong?

With using a filter, you are allowing unmetered air in which will throw off your low and mid fuel trims. You also running the risk of coating your engine bay with a coating of oil. Also while small, the intake vacuum aids in crankcase ventilation of the valve cover. Finally, if you do not check the breather filter often, it can quickly become saturated in oil, which in turn causes excess crankcase pressure in turn producing bad effects.

Gotcha. I will make sure to change that right away! Maybe it will also help out my boost gauge reading, it sits at -18vac at idle, I swore it should be around -15vac at idle. Correct?

I appreciate the explaination!

No problem. It might change your vacuum reading at idle, and what one should be reading depends on what you are running engine wise, as well as elevation where you live. I checked your profile, and I think you are on the stock turbo, so anywhere between 15-18 is good. Also, if you are on the stock turbo, switch to one range hotter plugs, the NGK BPR6es. Otherwise you are not boosting enough which can cause the BPR7es to not heat up enough and foul out.

Ok. So I changed the filter back to the vacuum line setup and it didn't seem to change much. I thought it was helping out the vac reading while at idle, but after it warmed up it went right back to -17 and -18. If you say it's good, I won't worry about it too much.

Thanks for the help.
