Glad your keeping your head up! I know a thing or two about that right now. I would do a thorough research on clutches before purchasing unless you've already been down that road. ACT doesn't have the rep they once had. But, I have been running a 2600 I bought used with unknown miles for fifty bucks and it's on its third year now without issue. I believe it may be the "older" style though.

On another note what was your boost on the first pass? Being turned down I'm wondering if you gained some traction earlier after the launch as it was nearly on par with your other passes.

Yeah I've been hearing that about ACT which sucks because my 2100 lasted 6 years and worked great, I loved that clutch. Any suggestions on good clutches for the 300-400 hp range? I do street, drag, and autox so it has to be balanced for all three driving types.

The first log showed 18 psi with a very linier curve but the log was very odd and I'm not sure if that was correct. I've never had a boost curve like that before. The second log hit 18 as well but it looked normal, spiking high and then dropping off. However I stayed at the redline after that and the boost fell to 16 psi. I don't know if it would have held better had it been at the normal RPM's.

Update: I ordered a South Bend TZ/FE dual friction disk, South Bend "SS" pressure plate, ACT "Streetlite" flywheel, and OEM Mitsubishi throwout bearing, clutch fork and pivot ball. I should be back in action in no time!

I'm wondering if part of the crappy launches I've been having was due to the clutch slipping. What if the clutch was slipping so I was going to redline and chalking it up as bad traction and tire spin? I just can't see it going from no slip to slipping in every gear all in 1 pass.

Nice, sounds like you should have 13's in the bag with the new parts.

A slipping clutch probably would make clutch and throttle control almost impossible. It will cool to see the difference it makes with your launches.

Lol, you're going to have to learn how to launch the car all over again. Do the break-in and giv'er hell. 13's are right around the corner. Good luck!

I pulled the transmission today and my disk is jacked!!! I'll let the pictures do the talking.

that thing is toast:applause: best of luck to you on your quest for 13's, ill be watching this thread;)

Enjoy the clutch bro oi just used it for like 14 days. About the comment that you have to learn to launch all over again, just ignore it. This clutch is easier to launch than the ACT, once it grabs it grabs.

I guess that would be a perfect example of what people call "kitty hair". I'd have to say by the looks of that clutch it was probly slipping the last few times at the track. I'm going out on a limb here but with a new clutch that grabs like its supposed to might make your tires spin a lot more than before. Either way I'm pulling for you. Good luck and keep us posted. :thumb:

The clutch feels good, about the same as my ACT 2100 as far as pedal pressure but it is supposed to hold a lot more torque which I like.

I went to the track on Friday and was dissapointed once again. My ET's are still the same but my MPH is dropping. I ran a 14.2 @ 108 and a 14.2 @ 109, both with 2.4 60's. (I don't know why my MPH is dropping. Winter blend e85? I'm still running the same timing and boost.) I had forgotten to adjust my suspension so it wasn't full stiff in the rear. I did lower my tire pressure down to 21 and even slipping the clutch and partial throttle I couldn't lower my 60's at all.

I just upgraded to the FULL version of V3 and the boost by gear solenoid has been ordered and is in route to my house. I'm hoping that will will allow me to nail 13's on the street tires, but even if I don't, I'm considering ditching the whole street tire thing and just going with the Hoosier DR's.

well if your MPH is dropping id say air up your tires to where they were when you have your best ET because now the drag on your tires is hurting not helping

also I looked through some of the logs you posted and noticed your peak timing is about 16*-17* I know I run about 19* peak

edit: also try ramping up you timing in the lower RPM range if you haven't already E85 likes some extra timing down in the lower RPM range

keep at it man your so close!

Damn, boi, that trap is good for high 11s, I think!:hellyeah: I just went 12.9 @ 112 with 2.3 second 60' times. :barf: I think we both need to work on our launches. When I had a 14b on my car, my first run at the track was like a 14.5, and I eventually ran a 13.1 with a good launch. Keep practicing!:thumb::thumb:

The tire pressure theory makes sense except for the fact that on Friday I was lowing the tire pressure about 2 psi before each new run and I picked up 1 MPH each run. Here is the time slip info:

Pass - 60' - 1/8 ET - MPH - 1/4 ET - MPH - Time - Notes
1 - 2.667 - 10.262 - 82.11 - 14.949 - 106.08 - 8:22 - Tire pressure 26, boost 19
2 - 2.614 - 9.781 - 83.08 - 14.412 - 107.34 - 8:50 - Tire pressure 24, boost 20
3 - 2.421 - 9.587 - 82.53 - 14.224 - 108.12 - 9:16 - Tire pressure 22, boost 21
4 - 2.478 - 9.705 - 84.36 - 14.297 - 109.17 - 9:42 - Tire pressure 21, boost 21
5 - 2.576 - 9.942 - 82.96 - 14.576 - 108.01 - 10:01 - Tire pressure 21, boost 20

I have raised the timing a tad so that peak is 19* @ 5500. I have v3 FULL now so I will need to work my table some more. I won't be revving any higher but I can adjust for higher engine load.

I'm not giving up on the goal, just possibly the street tires. Honestly I think I'm spinning more in second then in first. I'm really hoping the lower boost with the boost by gear setup will help with that. I'm going to start off with wastegate pressure in 1st and 2nd and full boost starting in 3rd. I'm also going to lower my launch RPMs some more. I thought I had it set at 3,000 but looking at my logs it was at 3,500. And I'm going to remember to set my AGX's to full stiff in the rear. I'm really hoping for a 2.2 60' but i'll be happy if I can at least get another 2.3 (I've only done it once).

I'm comparing my logs from my 14.1 @ 113 run back in May and my 14.2 @ 109 last week.
  • May boost hit 21.6 at 4,777 in 4th gear. October 21.4 at 4,729 in 4th gear.
  • May boost dropped to 17.6 at 5,622. October 17.2 at 5,631 in 4th. *Clearly the washers didn't help at all. I added 2 under each bolt, but I may add more.
  • May 3rd gear shift IDC's were 61.7% @ 6,229. October 69.3% @ 6,250. At that same point, AFR was 12.4 on both. Timing 17 in May and 19 in October. Airflow was 28.9 in May and 29.9 in October. IAT was 121 in May and 90 in October.
If there is anything else I need to look at, let me know and I can get you the data.

What are outside temps when your running at the track down there in TX? I've been noticing a lot this year that my 14b powered 1g feels like a real slug at 20-21psi in the summer heat. I've lowered it to around 18psi and it pulls much stronger in the hot weather now compared to 20-21psi. I've talked to a few guys with fast 14b cars and they say the same thing about the heat killing the 14b's power. I'm not sure if this is an issue with your car or not but I felt like sharing. Living in New England I have the advantage of nice cool temps on my morning (5am) drives into work and I swear the car feels like it has an extra 30-40hp compared to when I get out and its hot outside.

When I went back in May it was durring the day and probably high 90's and I ran quicker and faster then when I went in October at night and it was in the low 60's. As you can see above there was a 30* difference in my logged IAT's in those two events and I went faster when it was hotter. Go figure.

Back in May your boost was falling to 17psi too right? I've also noticed with awd anyways that I get better traction off the line when its hot out. How is your wheel spin in 2nd gear now with the cooler temps? Is it noticeably worse than before or about the same? With colder intake temps and more boost I would have to guess you had less traction this time out to run slower but then again your running almost the same e.t. now but at 4mph slower which tells me the driving is getting better. I'm confusing myself ROFL Either way I think there is a lot to gain with driving.

Needs Awd. :)
That's too easy! :p

Tire spin in second gear felt the same both times. I have the BBG solenoid now and I'm getting it setup. So far with the BBG at 0 (wastegate pressure) I hit 13 psi and it creeps to 16 so I'll be running a little less then before in 1st and 2nd but still not as low as I had hoped for.

Ah I missed that about the boost still dropping in October LOL. I used to run 4 washerson each bolt on my stock actuator to help it from falling off. The washers never fixed my boost fall off issue completely but it def made a difference. Now I'm running a 14psi garrett actuator with an adjustable arm on it that I custom fit to the 14b and my boost only falls off maybe 2psi at most with the arm adjust much shorter. With the stiffer garrett actuator I noticed the 14b also spools up a bit quicker too now.

I tried 4 washers on each bolt today and it still fell to 17.2 by 5,6XX RPM. The odd thing is that that was at wastegate pressure. I'm using the new boost by gear solenoid (in place of my MBC) with it set to zero (so open all the time) and in second gear the boost went straight to 16.7 psi and I started spinning like crazy. In third it went straight to 19.1 and then fell to 17.2 at 5,6XX and 15.1 by 6,2XX. I'm hoping its just the washers making it build so much at wastegate pressure. I'm going to pull them all off and try again later. If it's boosting this high at wastegate pressure and I'm still all out spinning in second, the BBG isn't going to help one bit.
