HE351ve, how to control the factory actuator

If you can trap 130 on low 500's Ryan, I'm sure this turbo will make plenty of power when someone made 650whp on it but couldn't even break out of the 11's. :sneaky::cool:

For the record, I only made 372whp/405ftlbs, and trapped 130mpg while weighing in at 3395lbs :thumb:

I thought I would update this thread a bit, I've made substantial progress with my controller. So much so, that I've made a Arduino Shield, that just mounts on your Arduino.. and you can power it directly from your vehicles +12v (on ignition would be best), it has CANBus, Turbo Shaft speed, and a plethora of other options.

I've had this turbo controlled on this thing for just about 3 months now, and it has been nothing but fun on my truck. Never had any over spinning, but how could you with a 25cm^2 housing! If the turbo ever goes over 132,000rpm code has been set to make the turbo the largest size possible

JP1 is for setting turbo rpm curves, JP2 is for setting the performance position, and a bunch of digital i/o's are setup with manual pullup resistors, instead of using the built-in arduino's for maximum reliability.

So what's the latest? I'm waiting for vgt to get big here but its been steady and only a handful of good threads. Sad. I have access to these things all day long in my shop, eager to play with vgt!

Things are going amazingly well!

I've made 2 versions of the shields, and 1 total board revision. Through-hole design for the DIY guy, and a SMD version. I would suggest checking out the Wiki here. This shield is completely plug and play minus you wiring the header harness.

One guy has already put one on his truck, and is extremely satisfied. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/18773866-post178.html
I mailed out another completed board Thursdayish, so we'll see if there is yet another happy user.

I tried to make the whole thing as simple as possible. If you can code, the sketch is available for you to edit, and even supply changes and updates. The shield has 4 digital I/O's for triggering anything you want, but the common code uses 3 i/o's for exhaust braking, cruising and performance (almost static position to spool). The 4th is a spare you can code yourself, anyway you want it does not have the manual pullup. The shield also has 3 ADCs inputs in the header (uncoded in the common code) to do whatever you want with, use a boost sensor/tps/back pressure, anything 5v that you want to measure and code for.

RPM by itself, works extremely extremely well. The only issue I really have with it, is just off idle response, which you either deal with listening to the turbo whine and load your motor at idle if you want great < 1200 response, or you just manage with it eventually spinning up and then you have the response. Which of course could be tuned out with a TPS input.. however my truck is all mechanical and I don't really forsee adding a TPS in the near future if ever.

Lot of time and effort into making something simple for people to use. It's no turbo commander haha, but there's so much control and ability just leaving it on an arduino... you could setup a xbee remote LCD screen... all sorts of stuff... on the cheap.

I may have a box solution for it, just waiting on some parts for the truck clutch finally exploded last week.. doing rear seal and whatnot while its down.

Any updates here?

So, inaddition to the LBB, you need to buy a Ardino, correct? Anyone located the OEM plugs to interface with the turbo?

I'm one that would love to just buy a total plug and play, but not for the $1200 Suprock wants or even the $800 Fleece wants for one. Someone needs to create a plug/play unit for $400-$500.
