So I am doing a 4g64 turbo conversion and found a t25 at a junkyard that seems to be in decent condition. I want to have a fun DD and plan on running 10 to 15psi boost. I also found the SMIC intercooler at the yard as well. Personally I would like the FMIC cuz imo it looks better and hopefully functions better. But not sure if its worth. They both price around 200ish so if either one is an option. They are both ebay kits and I don't have too much budget left over to spend. If there are any other alternates please share! Thanks

SMIC Piping:

Oh sorry I did not explain it well. I mean't I already have the SMIC and t25 but was deciding if its better to get the Piping for the SMIC to complete it or get the complete FMIC for a little bit more.

But yeah after some asking around and research I think ima run the SMIC because some people said they had ac problems and some cooling temp problems, but there are loops holes around that. But I plan on just DD it. Kind of want something fun and simple. Thanks!

There is loop holes around the coolant Temps and ac. But it's not worth all the headache for something under 350whp. It's like I told ya I'd stick with the smic. Plus look around for a used set. I bought some a couple weeks ago for 80$ with couplers and all.

I've heard 2 things that might help you here.;
1. I've heard that a lot of ebay FMIC kits tend to suck. The quality and fitment of the parts tends to be a bit sketchy especially once you get to the cheaper side of things. You can look up a lot of forum posts on here where people talk about how terrible their ebay/cheap FMIC is. Although it does give you the steez factor of having a FMIC.

2. When I brought up using a FMIC for my t25 to my DSM mechanic, he all but laughed at me ROFL. "A SMIC is plenty of intercooler for the dinky little T25, especially at those (stock) boost levels" is what he told me. You should also save quite a few bucks going SMIC as well, as people are looking to get rid of their SMIC stuff a lot to upgrade to FMIC (including me LOL).

Thanks a lot for the feedback and responses guys In the end I decided to continue with the SMIC. :thumb:

And yeah LOL the main reason I wanted to see if it was even worth because FMIC are pretty cool looking. But for DD some of the possible problems are something I don't want to trade for reliability.

I also decided I'm just gunna upgrade from the t25 to big 16g. Running at 10 to 15 still.

Also for fuel managment I'm using high Imp 450cc, 190lph walbro, 2g fpr, wideband and thats basically it LOL.

Dang, going from a T25 to a 16g is quite the jump! I'm sure some of the experts will chime in here soon, but you'll need quite a bit for that swap. Also I'd personally run a FMIC or a really beefy SMIC in that case. We'll see what some others think though.

Find a Small 16G if you can. They're close in size to the T28 which was the factory-intended upgrade for a 2G but with much better durability.

The compressor is not only physically smaller than the Big 16G for better spool and response, it's a higher trim calculation meaning the air charge it's generating at a given boost level (like 15psi) will be cooler and won't put as much demand on an undersized intercooler. The downside to that is due to the fact that the compressor is indeed smaller, the map ends sooner...so you're done at 22-23psi should you ever choose to upgrade the fuel system.
