I can say if you keep launching hard on an awd expect to be replacing clutches and some miscellaneous drivetrain parts and what not. Both awd and fwd cars can get a good suspension set up and performance or custom axles and suspension for cheap that you won't have to worry about breaking as much. Never said stock persay, I said cars that are not highly modified (ie: a turbo with the inlet size of my hand and completely built internals). ANYWAYS, anyone ever see that SNL skit before?

what i'm saying is awd is better for the curves and fwd and rwd is better for a straight line. You guys are crazy if your telling me that theres no power loss sharing with all 4's...I'm saying for a stock to slightly modded car not some car that has thousands put into it.

AWDs have a shorter gear ratio then FWDs. The difference from a roll is minimal, the difference from a dead stop is substantial.

So a BONE STOCK GS-T and GSX was racing from a dig, the GSX would obviously get out of the whole 1st but the GS-T would catch back up? and do you think runnng drag radials on the street will tear up the tires anymore than your average performance tire?

The GST would never catch back up. A couple years ago, we went 13.7@99mph on a 96 TSI AWD with just a k&n airfilter, and unbolted exhaust(not even a mbc). I'd love to see a GST run anything over 14.5 with just those mods.

I believe ALL of what I'm hearing and I'm saying exactly what you are, everyone has there own experiences. It's not like I'm saying some assholish remark like "yeah buy an awd if you wanna be cheap and not do a setup on a fwd the right way to run right at the track" that's not at all what I'm saying because It's NOT true. I'm saying everyone's got there own thing. But most people want to say get awd because fwd is useless for everything.

Well if you are buying your car to race stock, then buy a GSX and "unbolt your exhaust" and run 13s.

I had a FWD Laser before my GSX. There isn't any amount of "drivetrain loss" that would make me go back.

That f_cker would spin tires all the way to 80 mph. I could get the SOB to spin on the highway going 70 if I downshifted.

I love my GSX, but I have a heavy foot. I run consistent 1.7 60ft and have 7000 hard miles on the stock tranny. Its my weekend car and I beat the ever living hell out of her every time I drive it...

Never would I go back to a FWD. NEVER. F_ck racing from a roll. Drivetrain loss just really doesn't matter because of the sheer fun of AWD traction under all circumstances.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts on this argument as well. The most compelling reason for me to start with DSM's in the first place years and years ago was the AWD drivetrain. It is right behind the 4g63 on the most compelling reasons to choose the DSM platform, IMHO. If DSM's didn't have AWD, I would have probably stuck with RX7's. Hell - the only argument I can think of that raises more hurt feelings on here is 1G vs 2G platform.

I have owned about all of them, my dd mirage doesnt get hard traction on the interstate until 4th gear, with bfg dr tires. spins all the way through 3rd, that is close to 90mph when I shift, (short shift) my friends awd is slower on top, but pulls me from a 40 roll till i have traction. If we race from 80 on up I pill him pretty good. This is a 2gawd and my mirage.

The only reason the mirage is fun i ### if looks like poop and has alot of top end. And she was cheep. It is really fun to pull a viper or c6 zo6 on the interstate in a $hitbox, but I will ALWAYS prefer awd!

I agree, do you guys know what it is doing to your cars when you drive in snow? ya it's fun to go out and do awd doughnuts in a light coating of snow but anything more than a coating and you basically plowing the roads for the city. also once the city starts laying salt and that salt gets into your wheel wells and every where else "think strut towers" it's going to rust the shit out of things. ask me how i know! but hey to each there own! just don't come crying to us when you get the bill to repair your strut towers.

Couldn't agree more - snow and salt is murder on your car. I have a beater for the winter ('02 Focus) and simply store the Eclipse in the garage during that time. If you need AWD in the snow, go buy an old Subaru wagon. Poor DSM's.
