Ok, i have a 95 GSX that is about to be sold, And I'm seriously thinking about buying a GST. i have one lined up that i like but the idea was pondering in my head that i dont think ill be able to get a 1.8 sec 60' at the track. i just want some opinions on you gst and gsx guys. is it that much of a difference from the gsx to gst?

Thanks,
Dylan

yes....yes it is that big of a deal. There is a reason these cars are so notorious and its because of the AWD launching! Combine that with the stout 4g63 and you have a serious street car. Take the same engine and put it in a FWD and you have a serious burnout machine.

yes, big difference. i have had both gst and x in both 1g and 2g. i love the gst once the car is in motion. i hate it from a dead stop. the gsx i love from a dead stop, but you feel it in the turns.
if you want it mostly for the track, then a gsx is for you. if you do alot of d.d and at the track once in a while then you may find the gst better suited for you

If your drag racing you want the gst...awd is ok for the launch (something will break eventually) BUT main reason is because your sharing 210 with 4 wheels instead of just two. It's very controversial but It's true...some people don't realize the power loss over 4 wheels.

Nowadays people mostly race from a roll so you might as well go gst IMO but an awd can be had to hang well. But i'd say get a gst for the fact there are less things to break (drivetrain-wise).
As for more power to 2 wheels, yes that is true, but when you start making more than 300hp on a fwd, you're gonna wish you went awd.

what,? my brothers bone stock gst couldn't leave the tires stuck to the ground

Bad tires ? My tires have about 40-50% tread all around and when i had it running with my t25 it gripped fine. Now that i went 16g my 1st gear is useless, 2nd and up is fine.

Depends on what sort of racing you do.

If all you will use the car for is running people from a dig or at the drag strip, go AWD. AWD is also great for autocross, where youll be doing tight turns at as fast as possible, and FWD would be a hindrance.

If you do freeway racing and road course, you would most likely be fine with FWD. FWD is especially beneficial for roll racing, due to the lesser power loss factor over most RWD and all AWD platforms, and being up to speed already, traction issues are minimal. Also you are less likely to break trannies, as the tires are more likely to spin and soak up that power, than your tires gripping and your tranny soaking up the shock. at least, until you get into the 400+fwhp range, then you will be possibly shredding 4th gear on the freeway.

I got another FWD because i do all my racing on the freeway. I will get an AWD sometime later, but for right now, FWD fits my needs.

Yea most of the racing that i do on the friday night strip is from a roll. hardely ever do i do a dig. But when i do i always pull a car in a half away right off the line being all wheel drive. But some of the mustangs and hopped up 240's get me on the top end. So if i start getting into the high HP for the FWD would it be smart to run drag radials on front? I've been thinking about that bc i knew someone that had like a 500 WHP honda that did run on drag radials everyday and his tires never got ate up or anything from just driving. But idk what do you guys think?

Are you kidding me?! Seriously, I've read some of your posts and I would say 9 times out of 10 they are wrong. Just stop. :barf:

ROFL i really wish you would explain to me how you came to this conclusion. the last time i went to the track i ran high 13's at 124mph. but on the highway on the the way home guys that were running low 12's couldn't even touch me. so i mean if you know something i don't please share the knowledge.

I realize there are some Fast fwd drag cars out there but go ask them how easy running 10's was!
now, if you want to talk street. imo fwd is better. but thats just me.

what i'm saying is awd is better for the curves and fwd and rwd is better for a straight line. You guys are crazy if your telling me that theres no power loss sharing with all 4's...I'm saying for a stock to slightly modded car not some car that has thousands put into it.

both car is fun to drive...PERIOD...i got a GST wit a small 16g and 1st gear is so useless...no traction at all...should of got a GSX..but i heard tat a GSX breakdown more then a GST...so yea...but GST is fun on a roll...you will smoke S2K on a turbo upgrade wit some bolts on...BUT I SHOULD OF GOT A GSX INSTEAD...mayb after i sell my GST:thumb:

They say subaru's are the worst to race on the straights because launching from an awd is definitely not the greatest thing to do...tho it is cool to see an all wheel peel.

You can't be serious....FWD usually has no traction of the line so how does that make it better than an AWD that does hook up? Wait til your GST makes some power then you'll quickly change your opinion about this...

you seem to be stuck on the "power loss". first off, yes. you do lose some power but were not talking anything that is going to make a huge difference. besides, did you know that with 2g awd gearing they have a taller fifth gear anyways. so basically they need less power to go the same speed granted it may happen a bit slower. secondly, when you start adding more power to that fifth gear it will take them to a faster overall speed than your gst gearing can go.
but i suppose if your talking about in a race of two stock eclipses one awd and one fwd yes the gst will prob. hit the speed limiter first. but with that said how many people here are running completely stock dsm's? so if your going to tell us to "read" maybe you should realize that this site is for the dsmers who want to take there cars a bit farther :thumb:

this should help explain it better for you :
Tranny gear ratios for DSMs

When will you ever hit top speed in 5th gear at a drag strip???? and I meant more stock as in not heavily modified, and mildly modified like something street legal. Power loss is a VERY huge thing. I had an awd audi that had about 230whp and it was a lot slower then my mostly stock eclipse is even from a roll.
