my radiator cracked today id like to replace it with something high performance. what should i get. i have a 95 gst

A lot of guys run Mitsumomo, Koyo, etc. EBAY has decent radiators. Some guys run half a radiator or a Honda civic radiator, most important is the coolant system is top knot, water pump and cooling fans also working perfectly to keep the temps down.

There has been argument over this since I can remember, What I see is the usual advantage of using a three row vs a two row core is you get additional capacity for coolant. If the tubes in the two row are large, the capacity gain going to a three row may not be significant. However, the area exposed to cooling air will be increased so the cooling will be better with the three row. There is another area to consider that rarely gets mentioned. This is the number of fins per inch. The more fins the greater the cooling area and the more efficient the radiator becomes. Included is what the stock or aftermarket fans can power a monster is needed to complete the circle, Hopefully this helps.

Also, kinda works like this: volume against flow.

Bigger core radiators were needed for larger motors of more cylinders since their is more heat to pull off the block with more coolant (volume).

NOW, it also depends of the applications: stock motor: easy a 2 core radiator, but for a modded and racing motor you head to a 3 core radiator since more heat is generated.

But both needs the t-stat so the flow can be throttled down to capture the heat off the block.

I picked up a cheap CX Racing aluminum radiator off eBay 3-1/2 years ago and it's held up just fine. The car runs much cooler in our 100+ degree summers than it did with the stock one.

The only issue was that the mounting points weren't positioned exactly right, and it required a bit of modification to the upper mounts (which needed to be rebuilt anyway).

I also run the CX racing... same specs as the mishimoto... no difference at all. The only difference is I think Mishimoto has lifetime warranty from defect.
Also if you run cx/ mishi type rads and you have a 16g, you will also have to do mods on the stock fans and the a/c fan will be a tight fit if you're running a fp ex mani to 16g combo. It puts the fan really close to the j pipe. So best bet will be you'll also have to dish out more money for slim fans.

I think the stock one will do just fine. I see members on here with decent power rocking the stock ones. I only upgraded cause I needed a rad asap since napa and autozone don't have in stock.

Go with a Mishimoto! I have one, I'll never go with another radiator besides them. I've gotten no performance gain from this Aluminum Radiator BUT it looks really good under the hood and I've noticed slightly better cooling..

Keep in mind that using a dual fan aluminum shroud works best IMO

i think im going to go with the mishimoto radiator. do i need to buy the mishimoto shroud or will the stock one fit

The stock fan will fit but as I said if you rock a 16g you will have to cut the fan mount that hold the fan motor to the shroud. No big deal or job. The AC fan also fits. You should be fine. Good luck on the buy.

The C/X and Mishimoto measures the same specs. It's like comparing punishment racing intercooler to a C/X intercooler for half of the price.

mishimoto specs: look at the end to end measurements
MISHIMOTO 95-99 Eclipse Turbo MT Racing Radiator 2G/DSM | eBay

C/X racing specs: look at overall size
ECLIPSE 95-99 2 ROW DUAL CORE MT T TURBO ALUMINUM RADIATOR GSX GST SPYDER | eBay

I rock both C/X intercooler and rad but it just don't come with the lifetime warranty like punishment and mishimoto offers.

Hate to bring back an old post but didnt see the need of creating a brand new post when the question involves a good radiator..

My question.. I had to buy a replacement for my 98 gst.. I did not look at the description only the compatibility. Well the radiator after getting it in I see that the core is only 5/8 and not the 1". How much of a difference will this really make? I have 4 fans mounted to it.. 2 12" pushers and 2 8" pullers... Should the 5/8" be ok or should I keep it as a spare and get a 1" core??

I like to keep mine as cool as possible. If you are stock it may work ok, but I run a Mitsumoto X but I have a lot of mods. A good stock unit should be fine. I looked at your profile but didn't see anything about your car. I New Mexico I would definitely get a thicker one now that I see where you are. Keep em cool!!!

Just to clarify some of the previous posts, not a good idea to run a half radiator unless it's a drag strip only car. Mine came with one and the Previous owner decided to remove the thermostat due to the 210+ temp the car sees on a 75 degree or higher day. Thats without water cooling the 16g and using a fan that is shrouded perfectly. If you drive the car, I've seen better results with koyo and mitsutomo. The newer mishimoto product seems to have become a lower quality than what it once was. These are cast iron blocks and the DSM engine bay is not temperature friendly, then we all put big front mounts on.

Look at the dates on those posts. This is a new question in a very old post. The OP is running a full size radiator but it isn't as thick as the original unit.
You can always try the radiator with all of those fans and it may work fine. My Mitsumoto X is so thick that it really HATES pusher fans so I duct as much cool air as possible into the radiator area behind the fmic with an air dam. I don't see anyone else doing it but it helps my car a lot. I will be relocating my oil cooler to the smic area very soon so that I have better flow of air to the radiator too. You won't have to worry about that because you don't have a oil cooler tho.

aye, ya right now i have seen driving temps is around 185 but then again its also cool here at night but does get hot in the summer... I will prob just end up getting the other rad in and keeping the smaller one just as a back up. I have a mitzo all alum. but I cant use it unless REALLY in a pinch as with the manifold I have for my setup puts the turbo right by the rad and in time always rubs a hole.. could cut into the support and pull back the rad a bit but i dont want to cut into the car....

Hello to all!

We appreciate the positive response from a large majority of you. However we did notice one comment questioning our currently quality. We back all of our products with a life time warranty.
Also we have a less then 1% failure rating. If anyone is having any issues with a Mishimoto product feel free to contact us any time at [email protected]

Thankyou,

John, I hope you didn't mistake my comment to be negative. Your products are a nice piece of craftsmanship, I have had 2 of your radiators. My comment on the "X" model is just my observations on my set up. My SPAL pusher fans DO have a hard time pushing air thru the thick core, but on the puller side it is fine. This new post had a fellow that was using pushers and pullers just to try to keep his car cool. If you have any suggestions on setups that will help PUSH air through your radiators please share it for us all, and thanks.

Quick question. Will a evo 8 radiator fit a 2g dsm? I have a leaking 95 gsx radiator. What other radiators are compatible? As mentioned bybother user before i may be looking to upgrade, i have a fmic and big16g turbo and will be looking to push 450-500hp. Im getting some new fans that will push from in front thebrad since the jpipe and ic piping make it impossoble to fit oem fans in there. So with that said what do you guys think i should do. Im leaning more twards oem with new fans, but if imma spend $100 on oem rad, i might as well spend $200 on this kit i seen with 2 12" fans and rad. But was probably ebay crap. So ya, let me know what ya think, im in it for reliability and functionality.

I had a CXracing radiator on my old 1g. The thing dropped my temps roughly 20 degrees. Granted my original radiator was probably plugged.. Anyways, that radiator worked just fine and everything lined up. For what I paid for it, how could you not go wrong.

Aye, hope mine wasn't taken wrong either.. For my comment on the hole it rubs is not the quality of the product. My issue is my personal setup, the manifold i have puts the turbo close to where the radiator is and with the turbo blanket it eventually rubs. I could fix it by either knotching the support to pull the radiator back but to me way to much trouble... I wish it would work with my setup I actually loved the mitzo.. I never tried to handle any failure I had with mitzo because the reason for the rub is my own doing of clearance.. :)
