Hey guys, unfortunately my car was involved a a accident the other day. Thankfully the worst damage sustained was my rad support got a bit mangled. I have already found a parts car near me for cheap.

I was wondering if anyone else has replaced the full rad support in a 1GA before and what all was needed. I will be getting spot weld drill bits, and will be plug welding the new support in. Does anyone have experience doing this or even have some pictures as reference? I can find stuff for 2Gs but not 1G stuff.

Thanks for the help guys.

FWIW here is a photo of my 91 with everything removed from the front end. This may give you a better look at how it's put together and where the spot welds are. I have other photos and the bumper is still off my car so I can look at/take pics of specific spots if you need. If this photo doesn't upload at full resolution (4032x3024) let me know and I can send it directly or something.

So I finally got around to starting to remove the rad support today but I am noticing something that's not adding up, it looks as though the headlight buckets are part of the frame yet in a picture I found of the front end construction it is not and is just a hole but mine looks different.

In these pictures you can see where I am pointing the two pieces of metal over lap one another, those two sections continue back behind the rad support and join what I believe is the frame of the car.

however in this picture it looks as though there is nothing connecting them, so I am at a bit of a loss.

has anyone actually done this procedure before, I want to save my car and not have to start over on another shell, I need to replace the headlight housings where the flip ups actually bolt onto as well as the rad support as they are all messed up.

here are some more images of the damage,
