what all do i need to install the gm maf i have searched but cant really get a straight answere and do i absoltly need a vafc?? oh and this is on a 1g

Yes, there is an upgrade available.

Here is the upgrade option: ECMLink V3 upgrade (from v1 or v2)

you'll need to decide on your own if the upgrade is what you want to do. (I am assuming that you are trying to find the cheapest way possible to get this) if you can find a V2 chip for less than $300 then go for it! otherwise just go for the new one out of the gate.

Edit: just re-read their upgrade page, you'll have to decide soon, they're going to stop shipping for about a week and a half here next month...

thank u very much! i did read it again and i finally get it. but i am just gonna buy V3 brand new. cost is not the problem but hey if u can save a few bucks why not right? one question tho. when it asks if i have stock 450 injectors. didn't the automatics come with 390s or something like that? how can i tell what injectors i have?

That's a good question. I've never owned a 1G, so I'm dumb in this area. Perhaps one of our 1G guru's could assist with this? Are there any indicating marks on the injectors that can be used to identify them?

1G auto comes with 390 injectors and a 13b turbo. 5 Speed 1gs have 450 injectors and 14b Turbo.

I have dsmlink and the gm maf with translator. I just zero out the translator and tune with link. The translator is just so I can vent bov.

You can't vent without a MAFT? I thought you could if you had ECMLink.

You can fudge it with v3, but it's not proper by any means.

ECMLink does not suddenly move your MAS to somewhere after the BOV in the charge piping.
