Ok Imwaiting on my GM maf and translator to come in. I know I need something to tune with. Im trying to get a safc2 but I know i could use a wideband also. My question is will the safcbe good by its self or no I have to run a wideband along with the safc?

I want to run link but I dont plan on going to big with this car so a safc2 I think will get me by.

you will need the wideband to see how your tune is going..

the tool to tune is the safc but how do you know the air/fuel mix? by using the wideband as a reader

thats what I was unsure of if it was a must have or not. I still have stock injectors/turbo only upgrades im looking at are a full 3" exhaust, hard IC pipes and GM maf.(so i can vent the BOV)

yea its always important to have a wideband when you are doing any fuel mods whether its tuning, injectors, raising boost.. you always want to know where you are when it comes to air / fuel mix to lean things will melt and to rich well.. there goes your mpgs LOL na but it will run crappy and lots of backfire!

Damn....means I will have to buy the exhaust right away. Im getting a O2 housing and megan racing DP from a member here oncetaxes come in but I also will have to get the rest ofthe exhaust(minehas like 5 bad leaks). I therest of my exhause to be thermal......but budget is tight sadly i might have to go ebay for the rest of the exhaust

You can tune with the MAFT for now, and used the money you were going to spend on a SAFC on a good wideband controller. If you have a pocketlogger, you can half ass tune by logging O2 voltage and fuel trims until you get the wideband installed.

i was just going to suggest this. Tune with the maft and get a logger. It will get you pretty close. If you are totally stock ( inj. turbo) you can run the maft zeroed out and be fine without tuning.

Dont have a logger. Hell i never seen a logger LOL. safcand widebandwould be fine right and no logger?

Well I only had a few replys on a safc. Looks like im going to get link instead. I will need tips on how to with link and can I use evoscan with link?

What you'll spend on a Translator, AFC, and Logger you'll spend on ECMLink which does all of these functions in one unit.

Link has basic setup instructions as well as a support forum for technical assistance.

EvoScan and Link are two different products....pick one. Obviously for EvoScan to work on your car, you'll need an Evo ECU.

Yeah I figured that out after I made the reply. I got the emc program for link now jsutwaiting on taxes to come in. Ill be happy with the setup till I get injectors and a turbo upgrade. Heres what Im gettingand what my setup will be till I get turbo and injectors.

3.5"gm maf(translator also if needed with link)
full 3" exhaust
walbro 255
stock sidemount with all hard pipes
stock turbo(14b)
2g exhaust mani
wideband
DSMlink V2.5

Im only looking torun about 15lbs of boost till iget rest of fuel modsand bigger turbo. How much power can I expect withthoses mods and a good tune? Im sure itwill be more than stock but what aremy limits with stock 450cc?

PS

I cant find any tuning shop close to Madison,WI.....anyone know a place near there?

You don't need the translator with V3; you'll need to purchase a cable from ECMTuning, however.

None of us can answer either of those questions for you.

V3 is the tuning program correct??? and ok ill have to check out that cable thanks for the info.

EDIT....im slow today LOL i figured it out already Ill have to upgrade to V3 inorder to use that cable

V2.5 and V3 are just version of DSMlink/ECMlink. If you don't want to use the MAF Translator you need V3 full, and ECMLink's GM MAF's cable. ($570)

I would look into V3 lite, and a used MAF Translator, to save some money. It's not like you would be fully using the capability of V3 full. (About $475, depending on the price of the MAFT)

Also do you have a EPROM ECU or Non-EPROM ECU? If you have a non-EPROM ECU, add the cost of buying one or getting it socketed.

i am also installing a GM Maf/translator shortly and am just planning on running that with no safc or dsmlink. i picked up an AEM UEGO to monitor the a/f. from what i have read, by installing and tuning the translator correctly you shouldn't need anymore than that, especially if you only plan on running 15psi w/ stock injectors. someone correct me if im wrong, i'll be needing to pick up an safc if i am haha ;)

^ if you are going to petty much keeping everything stock, (meaning stock injectors, stock fuel pump), I think you will be fine if you add a datalogger (very important) along with the MAFT and UEGO.

BTW: I don't think you really have to tune the MAFT since you are using Stock injectors.

ialready ordered a gm maf and translatorjsut waiting for it to arrive. Only stockparts i will have is injectors and turbo. I do have later plans foreithera 16g or 20g with either 560cc or 650cc injectors and afmiconce i have the turbo and injectors.

Ok fix the grammar that was a mess goals? With the 20g in mind get some more fuel than the 560s or 650s. Nice start youll learn lots as you go along. Set your maft for your injectors, but use the logger to help and the wideband.

i have been keepin my eye out for dataloggers but school has started up again and time is of the essence. when i said the stock injectors and 15psi i was referring to his build, ive got some 560cc injectors on mine.

thanks for the info!

Yeah sorry for the grammer I try to catch it but my spacebar is broken and has a picky press point. Yeah max Id wanna run for injectors will be 680cc with the 20g should be more than enough for 20lbs.(my buddy ran 28/30lbs with a 50 trimand 680s made close to 500hp)

I missed this reply. Yes I also read just the maft and awideband will be fine. Safc or link is just to do more of a fine tune
