Gauge cluster acting wacky

Ok, I did try to search but came up empty.

I just bought a new to me 92 TSi Awd that has an EVO8 ecu swap done to it. The car idles fairly well, 2k after cold start up then it drops down below 1k.
Then the with the idle steady, the needle on the tach will drop to zero but idle is still fine.

Also the fuel gauge does not read correctly.

My question is, does the ecu control the read outs of the cluster or is there sensors I need to be looking at? Is this normal behavior with a swap like thin into a 1g?

I was thinking of replacing the cluster since they are pretty cheap to come by.

Thanks for any help! :thumb:

Finally got around to swapping out fuel sender units today.

Bought a replacement unit from a member here on tuners; had a small snafu but everything got swapped out and the fuel gauge in the cluster works once again!

If your tach is still acting funny then check the power transistor unit too. The white wire at the PTU is where the tach gets it's signal from. That's how it is on my 2G. I'm not completely certain that this is true for 1G's however. Maybe someone more familiar with 1G's can jump in and verify.
