Washington,
Well, I picked up a brand spanking new ebay evo3/16g turbo setup from a local here for $125 bucks the other day. But I also have a real one en route that I got for a good price. What do you guys think I should do here? You want comparison pics of the turbos side by side, comparison vids? Do you want me to install the ebay one and see how long it runs and how well it runs, then if it blows to install the real MHI Evo3? Throw me some ideas. I'll try to entertain them.

ADDITION TO THE THREAD:

With all due respect here. I think a lot of people on both sides are being HEAVILY MISLEAD by others. The MHI turbo with the install kit will in NO WAY cost you only $75 more then the ebay setup. Where is everyone getting their numbers from? The ebay turbos with the install kit and an ebay j pipe will cost you under $300. The MHI turbo's with the same wil cost you $700+

Guys please get your numbers straight here. I am not a cheapskate or a poor starving college student. If you look at the pictures- I have a relatively new MHI turbo in the pictures right next to the ebay turbo and both are mine. I'm not doing this to save a couple of bucks but to prove a theory we have.

One warning I will put in caps here for those who may buy an ebay turbo and ebay install kit.

90% OF THE BOLTS, STUDS, ETC ON THE EBAY TURBO INSTALL KITS ARE THE INCORRECT SIZE. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN USING EBAY INSTALL KITS. IF IT DOESNT' THREAD IN HALFWAY WITH YOUR FINGERS- IT IS THE WRONG SIZE, HEED MY WARNING

love this tread so far guys because i have been thinking of going ebay for my turbo since im so poor LOL. so far it has been making me feel like the ebay turbos are not so bad actrully and they look like there built perrty well in comparison to the real deals. basicully i think maybe ebay turbos are just so much less money because they are off brand. im sher if u take care of the eaby trubo it will end up lasting long like the T25 or 14B if not longer. so far im pleased with the way im seeing the ebay ones bulit.

im looking forwerd to updates on this tread.

good luck guys!

Good thread! Installing an e-bay "Evo 3", DSM Link, Walboro 255 w/ebay knock off Aeromotive FPR, PTE 880's, on my 2g GSX (fresh 6bolt w/2g head) right now. Looking forward to reading more-keep it up!

Thoughts on the SSAC fmic install:

This may have been because I did a 2ga turbo upgrade as well. I had to cut the following:

-3 inches off the jpipe
-cut the outlet pipe on the fmic (driver side) to about 1 inch right before the bead.
-had to cut the reducer pipe that went to above pipe about 3.5 inches.
-the ps cooling lines were relocated to behind the front guard
-the top bumper mount was cut for the fmic top middle tab
-passenger side frame by the headlight had to be cut a good ways for the outlet pipe.

Yes- they do, and we don't have headers- we have turbo manifolds. They crack and overheat. Take it to another thread please.

Err stupid me.. EDIT:

Does this ebay turbo have the same compressor wheel size as the mhi evo 3?

Exactly what I was wondering. The compressor wheel is the ONLY reason the mhi evo 3 16g is any better than other 16g's. It's a bigger wheel than flows way more air, hence, more horsepower out of a 16g.

I would have said it but why bother? The pictures and the million other sources don't get thru to many people.

Get the slowboy kit, the ebay kit we had did not fit- the bolts would not thread in at all. if you have an fmic the ebay kit is useless. Better yet get the RRE kit- I have heard negatives about slowboy's customer service. The car will be fired up as soon as my new oil line and t clamps come in.

Good Work Guys!
When do you think you'll be able to fire it up? i would like to check back on it as soon as its all goin.
So i guess the SlowBoy Install kit would be better if the ebay kit bolts dont fit. right?
The cheapest alternative is to get a 1g oil feed line, oil return line and a ebay j-pipe. This make it an easy install.

I have an ebay j pipe, oil return line, and 1g feed line for sale btw- pm me.

I am watching this thread like a hawk waiting to decide what to buy. I have a 1g with no front mount or any of that jazz so will the install kit work that comes with the ebay one if I go that route or do you still suggest getting the kit from slowboy and using it with the ebay turbo? I hope your results are positive most of what I read from people that ACTUALLY HAVE the turbos is good its just the peeps that payed 3 times as much that really bash them.

you guys rock...this is so great! :rocks:

Wouldn't the ebay 16g's be better for the 1g. They are supposed to be "direct bolt on"...and with the FMIC issue with ebay one's I'd think that a supra SMIC would suffice an evo 16g.

I believe it is also lighter. Not sure though, someone confirm/correct? I've heard that they are and that they aren't.

We didn't get a chance to put them on an actual scale- but they seemed like they were the same weight. I thought the ebay turbo was lighter and laserspeed thought the mhi was lighter.
