Ok so I am moving this week and as I started boxing up the garage I came across a Freshly rebuilt, never installed stock 1g head that I completely forgot I even had. Yes i know not the kind of thing one normally forgets getting back from the machine shop, but I had rolled a car around that time and have some serious blank spots in my memory for that period. But I digress...

So I have this fresh head that I am not doing anything with.... if I should decide to slap a pair of 264s in it would it survive or would it only last till the next oil change.

:D Christmas is early this year.

Wonder if I will find out that I went out and bought an evo3 and parked it in storage :sneaky:

i ran crower 272 cams in my stock rebuilt head for 10k miles at 8k rpms untill i rebuilt the engine. never any problems

And send me a PM, I have been known to be a SANTA with some of the deals I offer. might as well make it a full blown early Christmas huh, LOL

Thanks for all the info guys.
Of course i do not know if the springs were new... LOL they Look new. I know the head is not ported and the cams are stock. the valves are new... man this is kinda sad LOL.

I am glad to hear that so many run these cams on stock heads. My gut instinct is to run a 264/272 combo but I have a bit of homework to do first on that.
I am building the car as a midrange monster for autox. to me peak power takes a back seat to midrange response and with my current turbo (t28 @ 21psi) my shift point is below the 7k limiter. If I dont rev it to the moon it should stay together for a good long time it sounds like.

thanks! now i just have to decide what cams.. yum

I'm in the same boat. I want good midrange power for my street car I think 264/272 would be the ones ill run

Now this is diverging a bit for the yes or no cam question...

with the 272/264 combo. The wisdom that has been passed along is having the 264 cams on the exhaust side keeps the exhaust velocity up and the powerband wider on the small turbos. which is important for me with the t28 @ 21lbs I drop to 20 by 7k as it is.

I have heard that switching the 264 to the intake side avoids the idle loping.

Delta, do you care to confirm any of these tidbits.

Get some used Evo beehive style springs and retainers. I picked mine up for about $50 shipped. And then get a cam. I've got FP2 cams in my build and I love them. I can't believe I went this long without getting cams...

wow, I cant believe they can be had so cheap. I have a lot of research to do i guess. but if i can get springs and retainers for 100bucks then i would be a fool not to.

Yeah do some searching on evolutionm.net for them. They're definitely better than stock and MUCH lighter. And they do well for most aftermarket cams. I don't trust the BC or some of the cheaper springs. I've seen so many horror stories on those springs breaking. Just be sure you get the retainers with them. They use the stock keepers so no need to get new ones or Evo keepers.
