Have some questions about taking my head off and how to keep it and the block fresh. I had my timing belt break on me and bend some valves so I've wanted to take the head and see how many I bent and to see if it would be worth while to fix or just get a used head.
my problem is I can't afford a new head right now so once I pull it off it might stay like that awhile. what I want to know is what is the best way to keep the head and block in good shape and rust free till i can get it put back together?

Most of the time if the belt breaks your bending more than half of your valves and you'll crack a few valve guides while your at it. A used bare 7-bolt head you can find for $50 to $100 but your going to have to do just as much if not more to it depending on its condition.

Typically you just wipe the cylinder walls and any bare metal with fresh clean oil and then seal it off (we use blue painters tape) and then for added protection we wrap it up in a garbage bag.

wow thanks, that was a very fast and good answer. normally you get a bunch of post about nonsense before you get a real answer.

what gofer said is good.. but if the block is going to sit in the car for more than a couple of weeks.. instead of oil, use wheel bearing grease, it sticks to the bores and will not roll down like oil will over time.. the grease can just be whoped away when your read to put it all back together....
