Alright, so my Talon was burning some serious oil nothing but blue smoke out of the exhaust, removed the head and replaced all the valves and stem seals and i noticed that the 1st "bearing" right after the cam gear is etched up pretty rough so i was wondering what a recommended repair would be if any?

I dont know how well you can see it in the picture

How bad is it? Can u post a picture of it? From the sound of it, possible machining needs to be done to smooth it down but not sure if it that will make the clearances terribly off or what. Any nearby machine shops?

Can you catch the grooves with your fingernail? Are the same grooves on the cam cap? Does the actual cam have grooves on it as well? The head may be junk if it's gouged up in the cam journals. The only thing I can think of is if it is gouged up bad that the cam journals could be line honed to make sure they are inline with each other and round but the cost from a shop might prove cheaper to get another head. Either way hang on to the head.

Those grooves probably came from metal contamination so you should make sure and blow out all the oil passages with a cleaner and air pressure. Find out how the metal got there. You may have bigger problems than bad valve seals.

That should be the #1 on the intake cam, furthest from the oil feed.

First thing to do is remove all the oil galley plugs and check the galleys for blockage and clogs. ( Perfer if the head was fully stripped of valves springs and seals)

Next take some scotch brite pad, with lots of diesel fuel, use the ball of your thumb and just polish/shine the cam tower journal, and the cap also, be a good idea to do the cam too.

Next take a proper sized drill bit and run it down all the oil feed holes from the cam towers into the main oil galley.

If your skill set allows, take a larger drill bit and put a slight champher on the oil holes in the cam towers.

Clean and blow out all oil galleys in the head, with brake clean and gun brush to remove any grit.

Now install the cam, without the fowllers, and the cam caps, torque to spec.

If the cam spins with just your fingers you should be fine.

If the cam will not spin, or you have to put a wrench on the cam hex to get it to spin, then the heads to go to a machine shop for a more indepth inspection
