I don't think it's a secret but it's getting hard to find a good core head to build anymore. My brother bought like 10 cores last summer and about 8 need work on the cam journals. I'm wondering what's out there hiding for head that need cam journal work. Missing caps, scored journals, ect. I saw a couple nice ported heads at the Shootout for sale, but missing a cap or something. Anyone got a hoard of caps with no head?
I've seen a big name shop loose a customers cap on a $$ ported head and botch a replacement. I've seen some pretty bogus repairs on this stuff too.
Last spring I had a customer engine here that had delta K272's cams with journals all tore up. The cams were over size and it was run without checking... Anywho that really kicked off working on methods to repair this stuff. I've been working on some tools for this, and actually just fixed one today. I'm working on making replacement caps, but that will be a while.
