This is the new project. I bought it from some back yard in the middle of nowhere. Took about 5 hours from the time I left to the time I got back.

So... this thing was stock with a 125cc engine and a reverse gear only... but upon further research I found out that it has a 500cc engine swapped onto it and a multi speed manual transmission. Tonight I pulled the engine off for a rebuild. Somebody left the spark plud out and the cylinder is filled full of dust. But the good news is that it turns over. Give me a couple hours and I'll have it stripped down and know what parts I need.

Got some interesting news...

So I finally found the engine name plate, under all the caked on mud. It identifies the engine as a 325cc. So it's not what I thought it was. BUT, I am not disappointed because that is still much bigger than the stock engine would have been. It has a 9.2:1 compression ratio, 6000 rpm max, overhead cam, timing chain... Still a tough one that I can give the speed treatment to.

The Murray is officially posted for $300. I'm keeping the engine of course.

Over the next 2 weeks I'll grab some good pictures of the Frankenstein Crossfire. I'll also have to order a few hundred dollars worth of parts and correct some sloppy welds. Eventually it will be an offroad BEAST. But for now, just some cash, grease, and sweat...

Here's a good divorce story for you... so the lady I bought this thing from said that her ex-husband built it. Well my guess is that he wasn't able to take it with him, so in hatred of her he filled rhe cylinder full od dirt/rocks and robbed the flywheel.

I'm willing to bet that this thing ran and drove just fine once he finished building it, but then he vandalized it so that she couldn't have it.

If I really wanted to rebuild it I could, but it will cost just as much money as buying a different engine. I might even end up with a new one.

As you can see, the cylinder walls have extreme scraping and grooves, the heads have signs of detonation, the piston has chunks missing out of it, starter gear is broke off, and the rings are ground away. I think he turned it over with dirt in it

That looks good. Rings should seal right up. Did you use a cutting fluid and clean it out really really good? Make sure to do that so the rings last a long time.

I used WD-40, and it worked surprisingly well. I still have to clean the cylinder really well, but the piston won't be here for like a week so I've got plenty of time. I also ordered a gasket set and oil filter. Might as well freshen up the whole engine while I'm in there . I'm still on the search for this ghosted flywheel, and a nut since that was missing too.

That ex-husband must have been a real pissed of guy or just a dick to fill that motor with dirt. Dam that's sad but you are doing a good job of trying to get her going again. I need to have you tell me how you do your fast motion stuff, I love it.

On the videos that are super fast, I do what's called a timelapse. Otherwise I just change the speed to 2x.

Engine is mostly reassembled. I can't seem to find a valve cover gasket sold separately. Senms you have to buy the whole overhaul kit, which would be pointless.
