Threw in the correct climate control from my parts car. Anddddd it dosent work... I forgot if this was a working unit off the parts car so I’m not sure what happened... but my blower fan dosent want to stop. On the verge of pulling the dash out and rewiring her completely but I am on a strict timeline and the car has to be running in 6 months. Winter here in northern japan is quite harsh as well... bottom is the correct climate control top is the evo 4-6 one.

And the fun begins. First day in I start taking the panels off to remove the gauges. And the wiring for all the gauges is really bad. Typical wiring you see around here for the bases in Japan. So the removal process begins! Under the steering column had the most wiring, one of my friends knew the guy who use to own it before me and warned me about it. But what I found was a little more than what I was ready to see. And I also discovered that this was possibly and EVO 1 RS not a GSR. The windows looked like they used to be manual windows and there are no wires running to the rear door currently for the window motors. Some suspicion but will confirm later on in this build. . You can also see the radio was wired in a wierd way that I have not seen before. Maybe better sound quality? Or maybe the car never came with a radio and someone wanted to add it. I am under suspicion someone has tried to change this interior harness out for something with all of the automatic controls...

Did some more work today. Found that the harness from the rear doors are still there. Going to see whenever I have time to go to the parts car and take the harness out of that and see if it works fine.

RS didn't come with a climate control and all related parts. Also you can check ABS. GSR came with ABS. RS didn't.

Correct. Mine did not come with ABS. I do believe it is not a GSR for that fact that the frame dosent even have the cuts for a wiring harness to the rear doors. Someone wired in the climate control all half assed which is probably why the blower motor does not turn off. Thats the conclusion I have come up too now. I am going to take a full interior wiring harness off of my parts car but I wont install it till I ship the car back to the states somewhere and have downtime and garage space to do it. I discovered today as well that my windows can go up and down without the keys being in the car. Crazy

And the parts car has arrived! I now have spare (blown) motor, trans t case and rear end. Bunch of other necessities as well.

Went ahead and pulled the rear harness for the doors. Still need to cut holes into the frame so that i can actually wire it up properly. Saved the grommets the best i could.

Also the parts car has 4 pot brakes. Dont know where it came from or what car, but im figuring it out little by little. Will definitely need a rebuild and some cleaning.

Pulled some more parts from the parts car evo. Found out where the 4 pot front brakes came from. They are off a z32 300zx. Its a little complicated on how this will work and im not really to sure if i will end up running it at all. But the option is there.

They shaved the caliper down to fit under the stock wheels

And trimmed some of the wheel hub to be able to tighten the top bolts. (This is the reason im not sure if I will run it or not. Im not sure how I feel about shaving my wheel hubs on my car.) There are slow some 20mm Spacers on this car that I am not able to get off.

So went around removing the cage today to take a look on how it was done. First thing i noticed was that the cage was directly bolted into the chassis and didnt have a steel plate underneath. So I ended up removing the entire cage until I correct that. But I found something unexpected and made one project another project.... Usually how this ends up going.

And Just like that the whole interior ends up getting removed. Carpets and all.

So everything gets grinded down after the whole interior gets taken apart

After all of the small rust spots were taken care of.

Also finished opening the hole in the frame / rear driver side door. So now the cars power windows work all around.

Final Result on a snowy day, next thing up is figuring out all of this wiring. The car has a huge parasitic drain and for some reason the windows and other accesories work without the cars ignition being on. I have found some wiring that are potential fire hazard so the cars battery gets unplugged every night until the whole thing is situated. I plan on stripping the parts car soon of all of its goodies and keeping spares of everything for my car.

Little bit of catching up to do but here we go. Got the car inspected to drive in the streets of Japan. The only problem I ran into is having to raise the car slightly. But no biggie.

And here she was with her plates.

Now I found out I have a 2100 RPM idle after the car warmed up. Ran a smoke machine and found the culprit immediately.

Finally got around to doing this 5 lug swap on the Evo. Ended up taking the front hubs from a 1g dsm and rear hubs from an evo 8. All new wheel bearings were installed. Got to finally install my TE37 and lower it a little more. I used mitsubishi FTO rear rotors and 2g GSX front rotors.

Decided to take the Evo to one of the local tracks. It probably wasn't my best judgment to track a car that had nearly 300k on the dash. Long story short. She spit a rod out.

I've been working on freshening the motor up a bit and just cleaning it up. Its been going fairly well and looks pretty good so far. Also been working on the battery relocation because I did not like the placement of the battery on this car. Hopefully that will be done very soon as well. Current plans are now to get the car out of Japan and to the U.S by September / October.

Much more has happened since the last post. the battery was relocated to the trunk successfully. The car had a flawless first start and ran perfect. only issue being that I shred 4 alternator belts before i realized the bolt that holds the alternator bracket was just a tad bit too loose. Once I figured that out it had no issues running. Now the next steps for the car was cleaning it. I polished the paint and it came out really good to my amazement. And then she just drove. Nothing much has changed since then because I am currently awaiting for my departure from Japan. The car will hopefully be stateside sometime in February or March. Excited to finally have my own room to work on it and do what I've wanted to do to it for a long time.
