FP 68HTA pics...for those who are curious.

For pulling air flow lbs/min off of an E85 dyno pull like gofer's, what do you guys think, would it still be ~ 10 lbs per 100 hp like with gasoline, or what? And then too, this would be all-wheel hp, not flywheel hp.

Also I might be testing a supposed competitor to this turbo hopefully before the snow flies.

What turbo would this be?

I've seen this turbo in the past, but nobody seems to run it or give it any credibility. I'd really like to see this thing put to the test.

Cheaper price tag, 20G wheel spec with a larger inducer, better-flowing Evo III turbine housing. This beast should give the HTA68 a run for it's money.

My wastegate spring is 13psi (.9 bar) and seems like it might be blowing open violently when its hitting full psi. It might also be the 2g (ported) exhaust manifold I have, maybe its time to make the switch to a FP exhaust manifold.

I have a 1Bar spring, I spike boost in lower gears, and settle out in higher.
At wastegate spring pressure I spike to 18psi in 1st gear. It will continue to do so if I increase the boost, Tuning for it was a little tricky at first.
I think the velocity is so harsh on the little 1bar spring, hence blowing it open & spiking momentarily. You could go with a EBC to help out the spiking issue I'm sure, but meh - I don't need to spend anymore money!

What i like is the td06 turbine option, has me thinking.:hmm:

Here's a pretty cool example of how much difference the compressor housing can make. This compressor, according to Airwerks, uses the S200SX-51 wheel but in a bigger housing with an anti-surge (recirculated) inlet. This is used in the BV63 turbo.

Compared to the one in post #17 with the same wheel you can see that the surge line on this one is a lot more to the left (good - due to the inlet). In this case the right side of the map is also a lot better - that's because the housing on this one is the right size (big enough). If you just add an anti-surge inlet to the same size housing it usually makes the right side of the map worse. The right side of this map at 68% efficiency is at around 47-48 lbs/min at just about any pressure ratio you could want, up to about PR=4 (about 40 psi boost).

I think BW will at some point offer the S200SX-51 with a housing like this, and I think the HTA68 could probably get a similar benefit from this type of housing upgrade.

Oh yeah, then you want to see the surge line on the compressor map.
Like others have said, you'll never get one from FP. They probably don't even have one for themselves.
You could get a clue I think from this map for the BW S200SX-51. The wheel is not exactly the same of course, but pretty similar. Compressor wheel diameters are about the same, 7 blades, small non-recirc inlet compressor housing, similar max airflow.
What's interesting is, BW also puts this same wheel in a larger housing with a recirc inlet (for a different application - the BV63), and wow does it ever move the surge line to the left with that housing. Anyway, in this small housing you can see that you would probably be on the wrong side of the surge line under the conditions you are talking about, I think.
By the way, BW is starting to make the larger recirc inlet compressor covers available for some of these smaller turbos.

Don't mind me - had a non-member email asking if you could elaborate on the "OEM borg warner" compressor cover (from a bv63) for the s200sx-51 series turbo you mentioned... he's hoping you could post a part number if you see this post.

The reason I asked about getting a compressor map is because I'm getting compressor surge running 29psi, its only as I hit full boost though. My wastegate spring is 13psi (.9 bar) and seems like it might be blowing open violently when its hitting full psi. It might also be the 2g (ported) exhaust manifold I have, maybe its time to make the switch to a FP exhaust manifold. Or I just need to simply turn down the boost because the HTA68 doesn't like 29psi at 4k?
:dsm:

Have you thought about an external gate ? I ran this turbo at 29psi for months and never got pressure surge..I used an external gate since new.The only way to go in my opinion..

Well, I don't think they have a recirc type cover for the s200sx-51.

The bv63 is a very different animal and I don't think there is any chance that the CC from it would fit on the s200sx series.

The BW part number 177257 is a whole turbo part number for the regular BW s200sx-51 with the small non-recirc cover, which I posted the compressor map for back in post #17. This comes with the regular (for BW) twin-scroll cast iron turbine housing. Here are some part numbers and dimensions for the 177257 taken from an AirWerks turbo outline. You can see in the column farthest to the right it has a "N" for "recirc", meaning Not recirc compressor housing. The info in this pic is for compressor and cartridge, there is more info to the right for the turbine end of it which I didn't include.

I don't think I have a decent pic of the BV63 but the BW catalog has a cool pic of the BV50 which I guess is similar but smaller. Just for fun here is a pic of the BV50, which is sold as an "upgrade" for certain Porsche turbo models:

There is one s200sx that is available now with a very nice recirc compressor cover. It is bigger, 56mm inducer rather than 51mm, and ~76mm exducer. The whole turbo part numbers are as stated here by Kurt Henderson of AirWerks:
The recirculated CC is ~7" in diameter with a 4" hose inlet and a 2" hose outlet, and if it's still of interest to you, it is now available to us in two versions in production:

178034 – 1.22 A/R

178042 – 1.27 A/R

Kurt is the guy I talk to if I want to get the straight dope on BW turbo part numbers.

The 178034 or 178042 turbo is very cool looking and should be a good turbo if you can get it with the type of turbine housing you need. There is one vendor who actually believe it or not has a correct picture of it on their web site as well as correct part numbers and low prices. That is here:

Borg Warner S200SX-7670Turbocharger from Racing Parts Solution

Actually their first (default) pic is correct, the second pic is not correct for this turbo. It just never ends! :p

Here is another correct pic. This is one that Strm Trpr had for a short while, never used it, sent it back when he decided to wait for an EFR instead. Probably still waiting!
