hey im swapping a motor from an automatic into a manual eclipse. i noticed when i got the engine in and was going to put the flywheel bolts in that the flywheel will spin almost all the way around but the jams like its hitting something. i cant figure out what it is. not hitting valves or anything. im stumped...

its a 96 eclipse non turbo

IT's gotta be something. Double check that the timing marks are correct and that there wasn't anything dropped into the cylinders. Have you heard this engine run before?

when your doing a 5speed the clutch bolts to the flex plate and you stab the tranny in the clutch and bolt it up. But I guess it depends if your clutch is non module or module.

Yes. What I'm saying is that if one of the 4 bolts is backed out a turn or so, it will catch on the engine and not allow a full revolution.

the engine was out of a wrecked car and it did run. i tore it apart again. took off the timing belt and the crank will spin about 340 degrees before it locks up. took off oil pan and no metal shavings or anything. next guess is something broke in the oil pick up which attaches to the crank. only thing i can think of.

There is likely still a valve open with the timing belt off. Just put the timing belt on correctly and you will rule that out.

alright just came across another thread with a guy having pretty much the same problem. he couldnt turn the crank over all the way. ended up being rust in the cylinder walls from sitting. this engine has been sitting for a few years. think this is possibly my problem?? they said to spray wd-40 down the spark plug holes to lubricate then turn the crank with breaker bar

that could be possible but what if its not rust? you know what i mean LOL its worth a shot but it could be something else in the valvetrain hanging up. im not to sure how good rust would be on the cylinder wall tho i would think it would scratch it up. you can try and see what happens.
