Hey guys, would someone here know what size bolt would i need to install the flywheel inspection cover on a 2g GST???

If you are not familiar with this part, its the cover that goes on the tranny where the tranny and block meet. Without the cover, the flywheel is exposed.

Thanks for you help and info!!!

also, is it true that DSM trannys are weak???

Solution
Not sure if this was ever answered (I'm not searching through 4 pages ;-) ), but the bolts (for AWD 6 Bolt and AWD 7 Bolt M/T Cars) (thanks, 99dsmer4g63!):

2G: Shield to block- Qty. 2 6x10mm (I believe they're 1.00mm thread pitch)
2G: Shield to trans- 8mx12mm (1.25mm as per 19Eclipse90 reminder)

1G Shield to block- Qty.2 6x12mm
1G Shield to trans- 8x12mm
I bought mine from EPSI.com (extreme) and havent installed it yet but my vehicle didn't have it.

Ya that is a pain in the neck... I ripped mine off...

Ok, I tried to install this inspection cover this week end.
I can't see how it can possibly install with out removing the transfer case???
Am I missing something?
Maybe I just couldn't get the car high enough in the air, to see well?
But the third bolt I can't even see.
Can someone shed a little light on my situation?
I've read it is possible to install with out removing the transfer case.
Thanks

The guy who did my 6-bolt swap left the lower flywheel cover off. I called him and he siad it dosent fit and that its ok to leave it off. Has anyone heard of this?

Can someone confirm that this is true? I have to tear the motor down and would like to put a plate on.

If I can install the plate, anyone have info on the bolts needed?

Wow, this thread is old! I miss my DSM.

From what I recall, I used the plate that came with my 2g fwd transmission. It worked fine on my my 7 and 6 bolt motors.

If my memory hasn't deteriorated much since the start of this thread, it's a 10mm x 1.25

If I’m remember correctly the 2g fwd inspection plate cover is actually 2 different bolt sizes. I believe on is a 10mm and the other is 12mm that attaches it to the transmission ( this is the bolt head itself) Mine is bolted to a 7 bolt so can’t comment on the 6 bolt part.

I will confirm this tomorrow when I’m around my other car that has a fwd transmission in it. It’s at my in laws and I will be there tomorrow for Easter and plan to take it to my new house to be reunited with the rest of the fleet.

Also I suggest not driving without the cover on and would modify it to fit if need be. Once again I will update my findings tmr.

One bolt head is 10mm and the other is 12mm. I can’t confirm on the correct length of bolts though as I bought the car in a box and used what I felt was adequate.

This block side is just 2 10mm bolts as you probably know.

Can anyone explain or show the differences between the 6-bolt and 7-bolt inspection covers? I need one and don't have either to compare of test fit.
It's not quite that simple. There are something like 8 or 9 different inspection covers (though most are now obsolete and unavailable). They were specific for FWD/AWD, auto/manual, 1g/2g, 6-bolt/7-bolt and various permutations thereof. It was something of a mess. See: List of Flywheel Inspection Covers

If you can list your specific application, we may have a photo of that cover somewhere.

I should have been more specific. What is the difference between 2G 7-bolt AWD and 1G 6-bolt AWD?

Can't find our photo of the 6-bolt AWD M/T (MD095656) but there must be some images online somewhere.
Here's the 2g AWD M/T cover (MD339957):

That's a 7-bolt A/T AWD Plate. The AWD M/T 7-bolt unit (1G and 2G) is MD191171.

Paul (Volk),

I believe the difference between the two units is the bolt spacing where they attach to the block.

I think I have a pile or box of them somewhere up in storage and I'll see if I can find one of each to confirm over the weekend if I'm up there.
