Missing Flywheel cover... not the lower inspection cover

Hello,

I was under my car trying to address an oil leak my previous mechanic caused when he replaced my oil pump but then I noticed I could see my fly wheel. I have searched and I have found I am missing my flywheel inspection plate. But the flywheel is visible else where too. It's as if I am missing another plate but I don't know which one, attached is the picture any advise I would greatly appreciate.

Yes there is a plate missing there

the bad new is that you need to remove the tranny, the clutch and the flywheel to install it.

That is not just a dust shield, it also centers the starter. I am surprised the car even starts at all without this plate.

It looks like you missing the lower cover for the flywheel and the starter plate (big one have to remove tranny)

Wow, that really sucks. Yes you definitely need that plate. Does the starter still function properly without it? Any grinding/noises when starting your car?

Yeah you're missing the starter plate from the link you posted and as stated you'll have to remove the tranny, clutch and flywheel to install it. If I remember correctly there's 2 dowel pins that align it and if you are missing the inspection cover it can be found here

Yeah it really sucks, I paid a local dsm "expert" to do a 6 bolt swap because supposedly my 7 bolt got crank walk according to him but they he revised that statement and said he thinks it was a thrust bearing. But in the end he should of installed the starter plate and it shouldn't of been a problem because I didn't do an AWD swap. I did a straight AWD 7 bolt to AWD 6 bolt. From my research I need a starter plate that matches my bell housing and since I didn't replace my tranny he could of used the existing one.

The car actually had some problems I over looked for now which makes sense now that I found my car is missing the starter plate. It does take a couple of tries before the car actually starts and after it starts it makes a squealing sound, I thought it was belts but did find it weird because supposedly the engine was just rebuilt and if the belts were bad I expected my mechanic to say something.

I over looked this problem for now because I was looking at a oil leak the developed after the said mechanic replaced the oil pump and now wants to charge me more to fix it. Then I discovered that I could see my flywheel, This is my priority now. Car is parked until these issues are addressed. I texted him last night and no response

Yep, missing starter plate. I would make him replace it since he did the work. I would bet the part is still at his shop somewhere. You should not have to pay for this IMO.

I completely agree but I texted him yesterday and he didn't respond. I doubt he will respond because we have been going back and forth about the oil leak problem that was left from him changing the oil pump, and he won't even address that.

That is a starter plate,ie shield plate,flywheel shield that is missing, and it is very crucial to having it on,it acts like a spacer,an everything from the starter engaging the ring gear to your clutch kit and transmission are effected by it and will cause premature wear and failure
