2g Talon Tsi, do i need to have that timing belt plastic cover/shroud on the car for it to run? or is it just for protection?

If you don't want to end up rebuilding the head then run the cover. It's there for protection which you really really want.

I didn't have a cam gear cover on and ended up having to replace the belt due to some object falling in and starting to tear the belt.

ok i figured as much, my next door neighbor who was a ford mechanic for 20+ years was telling me this weekend that it was needed for the lower sensor to "complete its job" and allow the engine to turn over... thanks

yeah man, think about it, dirt, water, rocks, and other debris, could eat up every thing in that bish. Keep it covered,

If factories have them on when they assembled the motors, I would think that you should too - and that's both of them.

Don't you love it when a "Blue Oval" V-8 mechanic thinks he knows how to work on import motors? They should lose their ASE licence when that happens.

haha not to be a d!ck but im pretty sure my AMC-Eagle is pretty much a domestic ROFL

I don't have mine. I want to get it but I'm not sure where. Would a junk yard be my best best?

Check junkyards, even though it's a PITA to get off there. Id like to say ive seen one on ebay every once in a while, maybe dsmgraveyard?

Absolutely nothing wrong with an Kenosha WI built AMC-Eagle which was a Hornet Station Wagon/Sedan more decked out with the leaf springs flipped upside down to allow a taller clearance for the 4WD setup and that 258 straight six was a decent stump puller in itself with that Chrysler Torqueflite tranny that powered them.

Too bad that Chrysler effed all of it up when they bought out AMC line in 1987, but we know that Chrysler wanted the JEEP line and dump the rest in a heartbeat. But, to save face, they brought back out the EAGLE line which stayed around until 1999 with the TALON being it's only vehicle.

I had a '72 Gremlin with a 304 CID V8 in it - love to blow doors of the Pintos and Vegas in that car class line and give "Heavy Chevy's" a good chase (after I took off the smog junk and tweaked it up some, but didn't help much with that 3.91/1 rear end on a three speed tranny). AMC knew how to build cars-which made the other 3 very unhappy

You can strike gold out in the yards for good covers ....where I got my lower one.

The original was busted up pretty bad by the previous owner when he tried to put it back on and lost patience in getting around the protrusions of the motor and frame...
