Hey guys, would someone here know what size bolt would i need to install the flywheel inspection cover on a 2g GST???

If you are not familiar with this part, its the cover that goes on the tranny where the tranny and block meet. Without the cover, the flywheel is exposed.

Thanks for you help and info!!!

also, is it true that DSM trannys are weak???

Not sure if this was ever answered (I'm not searching through 4 pages ;-) ), but the bolts (for AWD 6 Bolt and AWD 7 Bolt M/T Cars) (thanks, 99dsmer4g63!):

2G: Shield to block- Qty. 2 6x10mm (I believe they're 1.00mm thread pitch)
2G: Shield to trans- 8mx12mm (1.25mm as per 19Eclipse90 reminder)

1G Shield to block- Qty.2 6x12mm
1G Shield to trans- 8x12mm

For clarity you are referencing an awd m/t transmission?

M6 bolts will be 1.00mm pitch and M8 will be 1.25mm. :thumb:

So, I have looked at a bunch of different forums and can't find an answer. I just installed my plate and noticed that it doesn't completely cover the flywheel. Is this normal? Do I have the wrong plate for my car which is a 97 7-bolt M/T 4g63t? The bolt holes seemed to line up perfectly. If this is correct is there another plate that I am missing or did they leave it like this to let clutch dust and other stuff have a way out?

I’ll probably need to revisit this around the forum as some of my own posts are a bit confusing / wrong, but pretty confident that is an AWD plate - the “gap” allows for the shaft to the transfer case to pass through.

2G FWD would be MD195137.

That sounds right. Just for fun if anybody thinks that small bolt above the tcase to the trans isn't important....if you're missing this cover and that bolt, the trans will flex away and the transfer case hits the flywheel and will start eating it. Ask me how I know.

Awesome! That makes sense and that definitely looks like it would fit the trans. I've heard that these are discontinued so I just ended up doing this until I find one ..

That’s what I was going to say, make a cardboard template and then trace it onto an old license plate
I preferred using the AWD cover + the metal plate that I made because the dent that's in it to accommodate for the oil pan is really difficult to do.
(I'm more so responding to this so then anyone in the future that runs into this issue has the information).
