Hey guys, recently installed my SD stuff minus the IAT sensor, did a little basic tune just want some input and points/adjustments. I see that I am close to maxing out the 650's so I have some shopping to do in the future, but for now, pointers and input please as SD is new to me, this is my first 3rd gear pull log since my tuning attemp, Thanx-Gary:thumb:

1. Either make fuel adjustments in the sliders or the DA tables. I usually recommend the DA tables as you get far more control.

2. When working in the DA tables, make sure to keep cell transitions smooth. For example, your OpenLoopMaxOct table has been adjusted. You've changed some cells in the bottom corner to 11.1, while others right next to it are still at the stock 9.5. What happens if your next pull produces a different load and shoots you into one of those 9.5 cells? You want to take some level of variation into adjustments, so if you want 11.1 as your target, change all the cells in that bottom corner from 9.5 to 11.1. It can't hurt anything.

Same thing goes with other tables. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about changing the OpenLoopMinOct as you will have serious issues if you're pulling from that table at WOT (or possibly at all - not positive on that).

3. Your BoostEst and MAP line up pretty well, but could use a bit of tuning in the VE table towards the beginning of the pull.

4. The VE table itself for your WOT pull looks really good. I ran it through the Excel sheet here and only found a few cells to change.

It looks like the table could use some idle and cruise tuning though.

4. Make sure after you're done doing idle and cruise that you change the OpenLoopThresholds values back to stock.

Thanx for the pointers Brian, its a bit of a relief to know I have an ok start to SD tuning. I will make changes as you recommended. As far as the idle tune, I am somewhat banging my head against the wall on that becuase everytime I get it where I want it, after a bit of driving it is all thrown off again, I pretty much have to readjust the idle tune every 20 mins. The weather is being a bit of an a-hole here, raining and such and giving a 3 hr window or so where the roads dry up and I can make some pulls. Does weather affect idle tune on SD? Anyways, thanx you for your help-Gary

You are adjusting by the wizard for idle/cruise, right? If so, my guess is it will change every time you run it, but the changes will be very minute. I know I could go out and have it make changes every time I ran the wizard, but monitored them and figured it wasn't worth it after some time.

Weather should not affect an SD tune as far as I'm aware.

I actually never thought of using the wizard for idle, I just went through all I could and adjusted it myself LOL, Ill give it a try and see if it helps at all and then I will redo my cruise as well. That link for the spreadsheet, is there a link on how to use it? LOL I have never seen it before and am clueless on how to use it, I am assuming your load your table up to it and it highlights any irregular cells? I'm probably way off LOL thanx again for all your help Brian-Gary

The instructions to set up the values in ECMlink are in that post. Then once you have those values and preferences set up and in the proper order, according to the list, make sure they're the only items displayed on the graph. Then do a File > Export and save the .csv file somewhere. Then in Excel, do a Data > Data from Text. Then have it start the import from row 2, select comma delimited, and click Finish.

If this doesn't help, I could make a quick video on how to do it.

Ya, woulda never figured all that out LOL, great video Brian, made it really simple to learn, I followed your instructions and everything worked out great...now if it will quit raining long enough to do another pull LOL Thanx again for your help, muchly appreciated-Gary

A couple notes on that video:

  • You don't really need to clip the selection out. The spreadsheet has a built in filter that ignores data points under a user defined throttle position. By default I set it to 94%. You can also choose to filter by open loop by changing FALSE to TRUE, although I don't.
  • There is also a weighting scale built in that is user adjustable to change how much weight is used for the averaging calculations for the new values. If you take a look at a log, you'll see that the ecu will either reference one cell, two cells, or four cells from the VE table at any given point. So this weighting scale gives a higher weight to times when only one cell is being looked at versus two or four. You can change this scale if desired, but I've found that the default numbers I put in work well.

Other than that, great video, Brian!

Good to know, thank you also for that info
