I changed my leaky oil pan gasket not long ago and it is still leaking. I used red rtv as the gasket and ran a nice continuous bead around the whole pan making a circle around each bolt hole. I think the two mistakes I made were not waiting for the RTV to dry before putting the pan back on, and I think I tightened the bolts too much ( I ended up breaking one of them).
I'm gonna buy a torque wrench and make sure they are right this time... how much torque do the pan bolts require? How long should I let the RTV dry this time before putting the pan back on?

if i got my crank machined .10 out and i got the appropriate oversized bearings would the torque specs be any different for rod caps to rod bolts? i had the rods machined as well if this helps any:dsm:

I dont know if that is right. what book are you reading out off. I like the torque specs rather than the 1/4 turn thing and torque spec. I will read out of the book I have. it probably has that 1/4 turn thing idk. The torque spec should be the stock spec since you just have stock hardware for the mains and rods.

this in in general what im getting of these forums
my book has become MIA and im not gonna buy another book right now when i knnow i have one i just dont know where
but if u could look thatd be great

ok so if i torque them to those specs, and i go to check the rod cap for play, and it moves..like it barely moves at all.. is it supposed to have a very slight amount of play in it? i dont wanna overtighten them where the crank wont turn

get a manual.

Um don't be subjective I have the 90-91 PDF, however it just shows ONE bolt in the old 90-91 service manual with that specification. I've seen main bearing cap torque sequence picture taken out of a service manual and I've never seen it before so there is something I'm missing out on.

that picture for the main bearings is from the 1g 92 and a half to 94 manual picture. I'm looking in a 90 and 91 manual and it does not show a torque sequence for the main bearings..... what the heck....... am i blind?

Old topic but for ppl who are searching yes it's true the 90 - 91 PDF doesn't have these torque sequences shown.

His torque specs were right, but as far as sequence; i would just hand tighten them and start to do your best to evenly distribute the load on the oil pump. Those are pretty fragile and cna break at a moments notice. I would start with the top left and then swap down to the bottom right then do the middle, then top right and then bottom left while evenly tightening them done.

So i lost the paper that the arp studs come with that tells you what to torque the main studs too using either their moly lube or motor oil. What i need is the torque spec for using motor oil on the main studs.

I read the haynes manual and its says 18 foot pounds plus 90 degrees, 60 seems like a lot but whatever, ill try and find some moly lube but i still would like to know if there is a torque spec for using oil, and ya she was honed:thumb:
BTW nice color!
