Ok,

I've searched the forums pretty hard and couldn't find an answer so here i go. I've had my talon for a few months and i don't drive it often, today i noticed it started overheating, so i tried "burping" the motor, checked thermo ect, then i noticed the fans aren't comming on. So, i check the fan wiring ( using the paperclip) and get no reaction, so i think the fans are bad. After i check that i crank the AC on and both fans turn on. So, i go to the relay area, and notice that whoever owned the car ripped the wires going to the top two terminals of the relay, to attempt to make a manual switch. So I rewired the relay wires and the fans still don't turn on. But i'm not sure if i've done it right. Now when i unplug the fan switch (by the radiator temp switch) and do the paperclip, the fans kick. When i pull the relay and bridge the wires, the fans work. So i'm thinking its either the relay, or the radiator switch. If somone has a 1G and can pull the relay and tell me the color and order of the wires that'd be great i'm worried i've got them in the wrong areas.

If the Terminal looks like this 1 2
...........................................3 4

I've got a RED wire running to terminal one, and a BLUE wire w/ a RED stripe running to terminal two. According to haynes, if i bridge terminal 1 and 2, and the fans work, its the relay that went bad.

If anyone knows the wire arrangement, or has a suggestion please let me know.
Any info is appricated. :D
Thanks,
-Abe

Update,

I was out messing with the wiring, and if i switch the red and the blue wire around and turn on the AC only the Drivers side fan works, so I'm pretty sure that I've got it wired properly. The way i have them wired now, if i turn on the AC , BOTH fans turn on. Also I'm starting to lean to the radiator switch, because if i do the paper clip into the radiator plug I'm telling the car that the temp is too hot and the trip the relay right? Because when i unplug the thermo switch and put the paper clip into the female plug, the passanger side fan kicks on, just like it should... so, I'm thinking that the radiator temp sensor, isn't tripping that female plug to tell the fans to turn on. Let me know what u guys think.

Thanks,
-Abe

Leave the A/C fan relay alone, its not necessary to play around with that. Oh, man, dont play with the thermo switch female connector, theres a MUCH easier way of making both fans come on. You still probably found the problem, bad thermo switch. :thumb: Insted of jumpering out the thermo switch circuit, jumper out the rad/AC fan relay. Its under the hood, in the fusible links box. When you take out the relay, stick a wire in the two female prongs closest to the firewall, then both fans will kick on. If you wanna get really fancy, run a toggle switch into the car from the relay so you can manually control the fans. They'll still kick on during normal operation like they should.

Oh :) thats the problem, the terminal was ripped of its wires, thats why i made a poor attempt to show the wires i re-connected to the terminal (where the fan fusable link is) I jumper'd both of the terminals after the re-wire, and the fans ran fine, but they still don't turn on at the normal time like they should. The temp will just climb and coolant will begin to boil  So i'm thinking either that fusable link (under the passanger side fuse area) is bad, or its the temp sens on the radiator.

thanks for the imput on the manual switch though, if i can't get it working the way it should, i'll prolly wind up running a switch :(

Any other imput is greatly appricated :)
Thanks,
-abe :D
