An o2 dump will prevent any backpressure or turbluence in the exhaust, but this shouldn't matter assuming you have already upgraded your exhaust. SO, really people usually just do it because its loud and sounds mean.

A recirculated external gate sounds (just a tad bit louder) exactly like a regular exhaust should. A non-recirculated (dumped) will sound like you are running an open downpipe when the wastegate is open.

the 38mm size is how big the valve is on the wastegate. 38mm is perfectly fine for this application.

The reason for bigger wastegates ie 44mm is to control bigger turbos at lower boost levels. Or bigger turbos at very high boost levels

Bigger wastegates allow for more exhaust flow to reduce over spooling the turbo. If the gate is too small and you're trying to run low boost the turbo will over boost because the gate can't control it. Or at high boost when there is a lot of exhaust flow that needs regulated quickly.

The h1c isn't that big of a turbo. But if you're trying to run under 10 psi the boost might creep up a little. 38mm is prefectly fine. But there shouldn't be a reason that you run that low of boost on that turbo. Unless breaking in an engine

well I'm having my engine built. I heard to beat it for a good 20 mins and then change the oil?...I don't knoe, thanks for your help though.

So bottom line, the 38mm is good enough on the H1C at the average boost level.

I won't run it under 10psi what where would the 38mm choke out up top? like will I have a problem at the higher levels too?

Like it's been said over and over again: do you want to hear the turbo or hear your exhaust dumping?
A wastegate that dumps the exhaust is technically illegal since the exhaust doesn't go through a cat. You may have some trouble getting it inspected.
Personally, I like it being recirculated. My car gets enough attention. I don't need to let every cop in a 5 mile radius know that my car is modified.

Very true. But if you keep your foot out of it around cop they will never know. Personally I like the spool.

But I run 4" turbo back so I don't have restriction from the wastegate being returned to the system.

I agree, Wes. An external dump would be super annoying on a baby turbo like a 14b/16G [with it opening all of the time], but on my 50 trim, it would only open when I wanted it to and at those times the noise didn't bother me.

This is actually a very informative thread for the new people trying to learn about turbo systems. Unlike most newbie threads, it has a title that can be found by searching.

OP, there isn't really advantage over recirculated vs o2 dump on are cars unless your running a gigantic turbo. But then it'd probably be a race only car and wouldn't have to worry about inspection or smog. So, it really comes down to if you want the sound of an o2 dump.

Personally, like knochgoon said, there isn't really reason to bring more attention to are cars than they already get. If you live in an area where cops like to hassle imports, I'd say go with recirculated.

38mm does just fine for my h1c. external dump wasn't that anoying. It would come in boost high enough to open the gate at a rapid throttle response or higher throttle. So beating around town with it wasn't very bad at all.

38mm is perfectly fine for controlling the h1c. I held my boost down to 5psi with it.
