On the exhaust housing side of the turbo (not the O2 Housing), is there any difference at all between a Evo 3 and a 16g, BIG 16g, Small 16g?

Is there any difference in porting size, anything at all?

I know that the compressor wheels are different does that mean you can interchange the exhaust housing side of the turbo?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer

The EvoIII has a different housing, but the same turbine wheel as far as I know.

You may still be able to exchange the housings.

Evo 3 housing has a higher nickle content so it resists cracks better. Very similar to the difference between the 2G manifold and the Evo3 manifold. In addition to it being stronger, the housing is lighter as well. I am pretty sure you can bolt it onto either 16G but for the cost of it, you are already 1/4 to a 1/3 of the way to a brand new Evo3 16G so why bother..

I had the question because I broke 2 freakin bolts off in the exhaust side of the turbo. One on the header, and one on the O2 housing. I just spent the last 5 hours drilling it out, and tapping new threads. The DSM gods showed me some mercy today in allowing me to do this with out breakin something else.

I did find out that the Evo 3 exhaust housing is NOT the same as a 16g, I am not sure about a Big 16 cuz I don't know the differences, but I was going to use an exhaust housing off a 16g that was at the shop and it was a little different.

So thanks for the help but I got it fixed so no need to replace it now. :thumb:
