full boost at 3800? are you sure you dont have any boost leaks, I would of thought it would hit full boost before that

Yea me too.... I was quite mad. I still haven't gotten a chance to check for boost leaks, but I would figure that anything smaller then a hole in my intercooler or something like that shouldn't have THAT much of an affect, and hitting boost by 2800rpms on the stock t-25 wasn't a problem. The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is the fact that I didnt get a chance to fully port out my 2g exhaust manifold to 7cm; I only ported out the step.

Please send me a link where 380 was easily made without nitrous. I ask because i have not seen one as of yet;)

My car is close on pump gas. It weighs ~3400 race weight with driver, it's a street car w/ AC, power steering, cruise, etc. It's AWD so I haven't had it on the dyno but the DSM horsepower calculator puts me at the following on pump gas:

Using the ET method, I come up with 352 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 373 horsepower

On race gas it gives me these numbers:

Using the ET method, I come up with 420 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 436 horsepower

It's still a 2.0L. I was running ~18psi on pump gas (12.4 @ 112) and ~25psi on race gas (11.7 @ 118). Those times were ran before I added the JMF SMIM, FP Race Exhaust Manifold and the ARC-2 ignition w/ COP. I plan on getting to the track again a week from today to try and get some better numbers.

Nothing special to my setup, in fact it's quite old school: VPC/SAFC/TMO stage 3 ECU no nitrous. All of the mods can be seen in the link to my car above (minus the good driver mod ;) ).

Also my Evo 16g came ported and clipped from FP. I get full spool at 3500 rpms on my 16g so 3800rpms for the 18g doesn't seem too bad as it's pre-ported and I think I read clipped already?

If anyone wants to buy my 16g for $500 (Cost me almost $800 shipped to my door: ported, clipped, external on the O2 housing - less than 3k miles on it) I'll buy and 18g and do a comparison without changine anything else on my car :D

There is NO WAY you are going to get 350whp from a 16G/18G on straight 91 octane. Also, if it does not have a CARB sticker on it, it is illegal in CA. Your car will not be smog compliant, I hope you know someone who can look the other way when he pops you hood for the visual test. Your best bet would be paint all piping flat black, keep stock intake box, get a 1G BOV, and get a sleeper exhaust from RRE. As for the turbo i would recommend a 50trim or run meth injection on a 16/18G to boost 25+PSI.

Thanks DSMSpyder for some feedback. I'm hoping whatever turbo I mount won't be flashy and catch the attention of the smog guy. But yes, I do understand the strict CA emissions, as I've owned a few highly modified cars in the past. You're right, I might need to use one of my connections to have him look the other way, visually speaking, once everything is in place.

I plan on going RRE's route of having their downpipe, their CAT for both smog reasons and boost control, and some sort of CAT back system that's not obnoxious. The 1G BOV is in place currently.

I've also contemplated the 20g for MHI realibility, performance, and OEM style looks (even if bigger). A green would be nice, but would be a little flashy. So, if 350fwhp @ 20-22psi is not possible without injection on crap 91 CA octane (eventually stock 6 bolt with ARP head studs and stock cams), then I'm going larger than this FP18g in this thread. :rocks:

Anyone know the recommended/minimum injector size for this turbo? I'm looking to buy another dsm on monday from a buddy of mine that has some of my old mods on it now. It has 550cc injectors and I'm looking at this turbo cause I could save so much money when upgrading from the 14b cause I wouldn't need to buy an external gate, no exhaust modifications needed (if I threw on the T-67 that's sitting in my closet), and nothing really special to run it. Also wouldn't need to go buying 1000cc injectors but wondering if I can just get by on the 550's for awhile. I remember back in the day that some people were running 550's on 20g's but then again, they didn't have widebands either.

Yeah, dsmlink. Will dsmlink pull THAT much fuel out? If so, I guess that's what I'll go with incase I need to throw on the T-67 down the road.

yea, you could even just get a basic keydiver stage 3 chip and run the 1000ccs like stock
and save some money... I have a dsm chip in my eprom, and I plan to go 1000cc's and a Supra TT Denso Fuel pump, one day when i start running E85 as my 850s wont be enough...

Laserawd's car is nice. I know he can make 400hp on that setup. I've personally seen my friends car dyno 403hp on his old fwd setup with an EVO III 16G

Ok guys, here's a long overdue update on the FP18G I put in. So I fixed a boost controller problem (temporarily); hooking up an EBC to the BOV vac line was a terribly stupid idea, I know. Anyways, now im running around 23psi and this thing feels good. The tires always break loose in second and barely holding in 3rd. I didn't check to see how the spool up time was, but it was deffinately an improvement, and I did happen to catch a glimpse of being at 11psi at 3000rpm. I still have some very minor tweeking to do with the EBC. As I fix more and more stupid little things, I find that this turbo has more still hidden. I'd love to get this car dyno'd but I don't exactly have the money. However, if someone has access to a dyno and would like to see what this thing can do, I'd be happy to stop by :sneaky: I will keep this thread up to date with anymore important info on this turbo.

I noticed you used a non banjo fitting for the oil feed.. What type of adaptor fitting are you using?

I kinda wish they made this turbo with a TD05 housing also.

:confused:The 18g has always been available in tdo5 and tdo6. I'm running an o5. Most people who went with the o5 option had the turbine wheel clipped to flow more at the top end. I'm not sure if mine is or not, since I bought it used.

If your talking about my setup, I just used whatever came with the extremepsi kit. its a male to male fitting that goes into a 90* elbow and then connects to the oil line.

I believe that the old 18g's had those options. Their website currently doesn't offer any options, even though they might be able to do it if i had called them. It's not so bad now, though now that I've fixed the boost issue.

Gdmbat85, now that you have fixed your boost leaks at what rpm are you at when you get full boost? What psi is your MBC set to?

Well, I still have to fix the hosing a little. It's an EBC not a MBC and its set to 1.6Bars (23psi). I still have to adjust my A/F ratios because as it sits, the front O2 sensor is broken so it's running full fuel trims up. I'm sure that is hurting my spool up time, but I'd say I see full boost at around 3600rpm. I haven't really gotten a chance to check it though. Tomorrow, I'm going to fix all the small issues, get it running right, and take a log of a pull. I'll keep everyone posted.
