PLease only experienced tuners answer this question. I was wondering if it would be possible to remove the Evaporative Emission Control System permananelty with out don't any damage to the vehical? this car would not sit for long periods of time to the fuel wouldn't get much chance the expand. please no "why would you want to remove this?" type of questions, i want to remove it because i don't like how imports are all cramed together with lots of extra stuff. fuel mialage isn't really a factor as long as it doesn't take me down to like 8 mpg.

that didn't anwser any questions, i have a 2g N/T i just wanted to know if this would hurt my engine or not?

There are no losses in horsepower from the evaporative emissions system. Weight loss is not a factor either. The system only has a couple of hoses in the engine compartment and a few components back at the gas tank.

The removal of this system will definitely turn on the check engine light, fail state and local inspections and also cause the light to stay on constant even covering up a second or third code that may have nothing to do with evaporative emissions. It's best to leave it in the car and find other ways to get the horsepower/torque you are looking for. Plus... it's quite time consuming to remove all of this stuff.

Wisemen are so like... i dunno... its funny how they just completely go beyond answering the question as if it is like telling someone how to sharpen a pencil to them... YOU GUYZ ROCK... :thumb:

wisemen do rock, if i have any BIG questions i go right to them first. expecialy doug hes the man when it comes to these cars :thumb:
ROCK ON Doug ROCK ON :D

I am not looking for horse power gains. I really like getting rid of crap in the bay, and every where for that matter. i am friends with a guy that has a ecu flasher at his shop, so setting off the CEL isn't a big deal i can flash it when ever i want. but will removing that evap stuff harm the engine? oh and my state doesn't have emmisons checks or even standars for that matter so that isn't a problem.

sorry i wrote before i thought, i was thinking of a diffrent company, but i changed it

Often this is done because others read the thread later and may not have the base knowledge. We tend to go from the ground up whenever we can so that the answers don't spring more questions.

last i checked my car was made in the us of a and my 1st gen was as well so import?? i dont think so :thumb:

yes i apologize of the temporary laps of mind, but the flaming wasn't nessasary was it? so I am not looking for horse power gains. Actually he pointed out how removing things will throw a CEL, which will stay on constantly, covering up any future CELs there were to pop up later - which would be a bad thing. It might not harm the engine by removing the stuff, but it also makes one of the idiot lights worthless. Don't see how he said "I dunno".

I understand the CEL part, but getting the ecu flashed will eliminate that problem, so removing it wont directly harm the vehical right?

It will not hurt. BUT there is no way to flash the computer on these cars with a software that you want. It's not like the mitsu ECU's where the codes are out there to be hacked. Chrysler won't release the codes for much of anything unless you've got a viper. So... The only thing you will do is turn off the light for the ride home. Then, it will come on again in the morning when the computer tries to run the Leak Detection test and sees there's no more components in the system. Again, this really is pointless as I've already stated but who am I to stop someone from messing up a good thing....

Well in my situation its not really important, I already have a CEL on from my exhuast a/c removal, and EGR removal. So it no longer maters what i do the CEL will be on anyways.

why did you remove your egr

becasue that thing is ###!! all it does is make the intake dirty
Blocking off the EGR does not keep the air cooler or the motor cleaner in any way shape or form. As a matter of fact you get reduced overall engine performance from blocking off your EGR. Honestly there is not one single good reason to block it off. We used to think so, but now that we know our cars a bit better we know thats not correct.

Your EGR is open only at part throttle driving, where HP doesn't really matter. HP only matters at WOT, when your at part throttle your engine is making 1/10th of the HP it normally does. WHen you go wot your EGR closes so your not getting any effects from it at all when it really matters anyway. If you block it off it is still closed at WOT so there is no difference, however at part throttle with it blocked off you get increased gas mileage, increased emissions and a check engine light beause it's no functioning properly.

Nobody cares about emissions or gas mileage at WOT which is why your EGR closes normally anyway with normal operation right from the factory. Your intake manifold gets oily from your PCV not EGR as well, so the EGR doesn't even make the intake manifold dirty either.

:thumb:
Anybody who blocks off the EGR does it because they don't know whata they are doing or are listening to others who don't know how cars work. Some think it keeps their intake manifold cleaner as in the inside of your manaifold need to be sparkling clean becauses you have neon inside there and it could get judged....

LOL nice pic. I realize there is no hp gain what so ever, i did it becasue i accedently broke it, and like the way the engine bay look with out it, I don't care about gas milage or emisions ever, I get gass for free and my state doesn't have emision laws. you guys keep saying how bad it is to throw a CEL, and i agree if your an un experienced tuner, or you don't have the right tools. I have an mitsubishi ECU connactor that i hot wired to my palm pilot. This alows me to check my engine when ever i want, it lets me read whats wrong or right. Pretty tight.

yea that is pretty tight, i wont be removing my emision right away but when i switch to after market intake mani and all im gonna get rid of it. itll make it look cleaner.
