hey im starting an engine rebuild/convert to turbo. im starting in spring but i was wondering if any one had any tips?

I would recomend spending the money and getting the good turbo parts vs, the ebay spehsials, also I would recomend better internals while u have the time + head gasket :), also mite want to look into the tranny and then again what are your goals?

Well this is what im planning on doing. i am buying a new crank new rods forged piston heads a new head, cam ,valves, valve springs ect. i am also planning on putting a new header on. i could use some ideas for a turbo. also i could use some ideas for a inter cooler kit and new radiator.

You would save alot of money buy selling your car and just buying a turbo car.If you just want to do this for fun then have at it,but its going to be a headache.

turbo conversion is a pain but you can focus your money on exactly what you want and not on a stock new car...

i was gonna go turbo but it is an expensive pain in the balls so im waiting till i have more time and money

yea i realize that it will cost some money but i do want my car to be powerful. what i am planning on doing will make it even faster and more poewrful than a stock turbo

because its not a turbo engine and i want 2 do this to gain power. i have to rebuild the engine any ways because the valves are bent.

(OP) What kind of power are you looking to make? We can post all day to no avail, until we know what your goal is. If that makes sense. I would say buy the factory 1g turbo parts if your just rebuilding your N/T block with factory grade parts. No matter how you plan to rebuild the motor a couple things to look into would be:

ARP head studs (standards or L19's)
MLS head gasket (again Mitsu or aftermarket)
BSE Kit (balance shaft eliminator kit)
A set of factory turbo cams / 450cc injectors

And of course reading this thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/1g-n-t-tech/157911-how-turbo-your-1st-gen-2-0-nt.html

Theres a HUGE difference between 400 and 700 horsepower to start with. And 400 is possible with a stock block and such so just save yourself the time and money get a good 1g platform the use all the money you saved on upgrades.

Have you thought about all the non-turbo related issues? ECU, wiring, sensors, etc.?

As everyone else said... start with a turbo motor, and use the money for the other stuff you are going to need.

Not to sound like a jerk, but if you are posting this kind of thread, I seriously doubt you're going to get close to 500 whp...much less 700whp. I think you need to set some more realistic goals and shoot for those first. ;)

It would be cheaper to get a turbo 1g, and just make some power with it. And spend the money on serious upgrades.

I may be able to get a hold of someone selling a 2g gsx that needs trans work if your curious.

price? well i got this car for free from my mom and i can just get the head rebuild or buy a new one. but i have all summer to work on this car before i can drive it so i thought to my self why not make a project out of it. as far as ECU or EMS i am planning on buying a new ECU and a EMS

yea 500-700 hp costs lots of money. If you can afford that, you can afford to buy an already boosted dsm.

well like i said i am doing this over a period of time because i get my licensee at the end of next summer and both parents are making a tribute to the parts

Fix yours so you can drive it, then get a different car for a project car. Going from N/A to Turbo is not very easy at all and you're going to need many different tools if you don't already.

well tools aren't a problem i have a full work shop the only tools i don't have is a engine lift and engine stand
