So I recently took my car to my friends uncle who's been a mechanic for over 20 years and he took a good look at it to find, in his opinion that I probably need new motor mounts because he said most of my front driver side suspension is shot, I didn't know exactly what was wrong with my suspension but I knew something was up because it does this God awful squeaking everytime I turn or put my weight on the driver side of the car. Anyways he basically said I needed new control arms, strut assembly, and tire rod But before that's done look at what caused your suspension to go out he said and that's why he concluded it was my motor mounts. Also he was saying that my engine has rod knock because right after I turn on the car it knocks like twice kind of loud but goes away and all that's left is a sort of ticking sound from the top of the engine. I was concluding that I needed new lifters but he insists that's it's rod knock. I'm just really confused and want my car running the way it's suppose to without damaging it, this was my daily but now I've resorted to getting rides from fear of damaging my car any further if it is in danger. Any suggestions would really be appreciated, I was also thinking of getting my engine rebuilt because of this but I'd go to a shop or somethingk because I'm not that mechanically inclined to do it myself, also I can't get my car up my driveway to actually do work on it.

Yes need to be a bit more info before you go thu all of that.

like above said a vid would help

Also a compression test and leakdown test would be helpful.

Rod knock seldom comes and goes, it may lessen but it is always there.

drain the oil and look for glitter, let it settle over night then run a magnet thu the oil and see if you come up with anything.

Sorry for taking a while, had to charge ye old camcorder. As for the compression and leakdown test, I was actually going to do a compression test but a leakdown is also neccessary? And would you trust a tester from harbor freight that's where I planned on getting them from.

I know it's not a full blown problem yet, but I dont want to keep driving it if it's going to get worse. I just had the timing checked by my previous mechanic when they replaced all my belts, and the car runs fine until around 2.5-3k rpms then you start to hear a rattling sound but it comes and goes, I've tried increasing the rpms when this happens and it's still 50/50 it'll either go away or stay rattling.

I really dont know at the moment, when I took it to said mechanic for a turbo they took off my new filter that I had just replaced and probably changed my oil too, all they said was they topped it off but i dont believe them. I was running royal purple 5w-30.

Sounds like the balance shafts and to be sure it not a rod knock remove plugs and get a long screw driver and push down on pistons if you hear a small noise it's a rod knock.
