hey guys I've had a problem lately with my 98 eclipse gsx i'm not exactly sure whats' going on. I have done all kinds of work to get it running good when I got It from an idiot with a wrench. I took of the apexi tuner off cause it made the car run like crap. but that's not my problem, my problem is that when it starts it only runs for a few seconds about 3-5, then it kills its self it doesn't stutter just a plan cut out. ive replaced one of my ignition coils to see if that was the problem figuring if it was it would at least run on two of four cylinders still no help. the spark plugs aren't getting spark though and they should be good they are only two months old with less than 200 miles on them. the spark plug wires are brand new. the only thing I can think off is the ignition power transistor and the ecu ive tried replacing the power transistor but that didn't help so it took it back out I have checked the ecu but not sure I want to until I hear from you guys cause im running low on cash cause i"m in high school but you guys don't care about my life story so the cheaper fix would be better but im just interested In what you think. oh also after it starts the first time it will just crank and crank and crank, and act like its only firing on one cylinder so any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Check your cam and crank sensors and the wiring! They tell the ecu when to fire spark and injector timing. I had a similar issue years back and it was my crank sensor the wires were exposed and all corroded. Replaced the sensor and it fired right up and has been running great ever since! Mine would start idle for a few secs then die and not start up again till it cooled off. Then it would fire up run for a few secs and die! Lol

i was running codes on both but slowly fixed them the crank sensor was on backward and now works fine and the cam sensor wiring was messed up but is now fixed. so those aren't the problem cause they aren't running codes anymore.or could they still be causing issues if they aren't running codes.? but thanks for the replies it helps to know someone has had this problem before. it might help to tell you everything started going bad when the car overheated pretty bad, so i'm not sure if a bad temp sensor would cause this to happen?? i don't think it would, would it? like it shouldn't cause a no spark i wouldn't think but i'm relatively new to the dsm cars. thanks again for fead back

i have checked all the wiring it seems fine i have tried replacing a coil but it didnt help. im so stumped on this i honestly dont know what to do. i just miss driving it so much. its been down and been being worked on by me for close to 3 months. like the only problem i can tell is that its not getting spark and if it does the engine shuts off i dont know what to do but all suggestions are appreciated

I would suspect the cam sensor since you said the wiring was all messed up. To me that would be a sign maybe the sensor got messed up. Is your car doing this!! I believe so!! ;)

haha if i remember correctly i didnt even see a sensor in that spot... and i know i dont have one of those plates on the cam timing gear. its a 98 2.0 turbo idk if that makes a difference or not. ik the cam position sensor was messed up but it was only the wiring which is fixed now. but idk about the cam angle sensor cause its never ran codes and ran without it when i got it but thanks ill look into the cam angle sensor. thanks for the input guys

Ok guys I'm still only getting spark at two cylinders ? What could be happening they are both new coils. I thank you for your advice I keep coming up with codes for the can position sensor though so if someone could give me a a wiring diagram that would be awesome
