Engine and transmission upgrade

Hello,
I currently own a 2nd and 3rd gen eclipse spyder GS. The 2nd gen needs a complete transmission and engine replacement due to cost of repairs. Before I purchase these, I’d really like to know what options are fairly easy for an upgrade. I have a 2.4 now in the car now. Thanks in advance!

Your options are: keep the stock engine, keep the stock engine and make it a turbo engine by installing a turbo and lower compression pistons, keep the stock engine and add a twin cam 4g63 head and keep it non turbo, keep the stock engine and add a twin cam 4g63 head and lower compression pistons and turbo it, get rid of the stock engine and install a turbo or non turbo 4g63.

Really interested in the “keep the stock engine and add a 4G63 head”. Is the stock engine worth replacing with another stock engine based on reliability with this upgrade? Also wondering how difficult and costly the whole 4G63 install would be and mating the transmission as I’m really tempted to just do something unusual since this car isn’t a daily driver. It’s just a toy so it can sit for as long as I need it to (the 99 spyder). Really wanting to do this myself with my neighbor and I’m feeling with the combined knowledge we may can handle this build, but would love to hear from people who’s actually done this swap to learn what do’ and dont’s they ran into and how they would do it differently if they had to do it again plus what additional items would be required or is there a business that sells everything you need to get this done other than elbow grease.

Seems like there’s no option for a V6 in the 99 model. I do see a V6 option for the 2002 Eclipse.

The 3rd generation Eclipses are an entirely different platform than the 2g.
