Are ebay Air intake systems ok to use? They seem pretty cheap but then again i have no clue. I found 2 on ebay that were like what i wanted, 1 is short and one is a cold. Here are links

eBay Motors: 1995-1999 ECLIPSE NON TURBO AIR INTAKE+FILTER RS GS 2.0 (item 360131882809 end time Feb-19-09 18:30:39 PST)

eBay Motors: 1995-1999 ECLIPSE 2.0L COLD AIR INTAKE 1996 1997 1998 (item 310122469482 end time Feb-17-09 21:29:27 PST)

I have heard a couple people say that they are using ebay systems without problems, but at this price im really scared or screwign something up LOL.

The filter is going to be TERRIBLE. Get a K&N full intake system.

Back when I had my 97 GS, I had one of these systems. The filter and pipe was fine. If I did it all over again, I would prob. get a new filter as suggested. Pipe and filter, simple as that. Does what it should.

Ebay intakes are a great deal, the only difference i can tell between my injen intake and my ebay one is that the metal on the inside of the piping is smooth on the injen and rough on the ebay. The ebay filters do suck though!

cold air intake can only cause problems if it sucks up water, like through a large puddle. They make a filter that you cut and put on the upper pipe so that if your filter is ever submerged not a single drop of water gets into the engine.

Ebay intakes do work as designed and sound cooler than stock, you can hear the bov expelling air through the exposed air filter and hard pipe. The coupler at the turbo SUCKS though mine is swelling a bit and has me somewhat concerned.

You will only have problems when you drive your car into 3 or more inches of water when running a cold air intake that really stretches down to the ground. Instead of pulling in air, your intake pulls up water, and water doesnt compress. (aka new engine time)

Make your own intake with intercooler pipes off ebay and a K&N cone filter. Have it reach down but give it clearance of about 4-5" from the ground and you should be fine driving normally. Just dont go into big puddles. There is a bypass valve you can buy, as stated above, that allows air to enter midway through the pipe when there is resistance on the bottom. It is not neccessary if you drive carefully.
