I've been running an ebay intake for years, works great. Check the inside for debris before installation and putting on the MAF coupler was a PITA. BUT... you won't want to use that:

yea the better filter is the one on the bottom. however the filter that comes with the kit is meant to be used with the smaller plastic one above. its 3" inlet I believe, the other is 4"?

You can then find a cheap intake on ebay if you choose to so.
If you want a relatively cheap yet good intake you can also look into this one which is the one i had on my previous 2g and i will be ordering another one as well for my present one
