I'm looking to buy a replacement for my stock air intake. I have a 6-bolt swap in 97' tsi awd. I am just looking for something basic like a short ram. Something pretty inexpensive. It's a pretty simple question but just wanted some different feedback.

If you do go Dejon just be careful that the inside of the intake pipe is smooth and clear of casting/powdercoat imperfections. I was warned of this by another DSMer who had little buggers on the inside of his Dejon pipe go into his compressor blades, leaving little nicks in them. When I got mine a few years back sure enough there were a few little chunks on the inside of the pipe, nothing 5 minutes with a Dremel couldn't fix, but it's something to check. Otherwise Dejon offers a pretty good selection on intakes.

Does it matter wht turbo you have.I feel like a noob asking this, but I havent actually taken a look at how the intake is connected and i've only had a turbo car for 6 days.XD

heres the best pic i have.

If thats a picture of your car then you DEFINITELY want to recirculate that BOV (they sell the piece on ebay to recirculate it for like $15-$30) If that isn't your engine then never mind. Make sure you do all your maintenance also( Boost leak test, comp. test, check belts, etc.)

where do i go for compression tests?

Usually you do your own compression tests because of how easy it is. If you don't have a tester I believe you can borrow one from Autozone or the like.

it doesnt say if you have intercooler pipes so im guessing you dont have any? well this kit will be great for you then!

Kit for factory MAS includes:
Intake Pipe: CIP-2gSy
Full Upper IC Pipe Set: UIP-2gA&B

this will be a basic first mod for induction and will flow better then stock rubber and wont expand either! its only $319 ild say its a good first move.

I would NEVER pay $320 for some pipes, not even exhaust. A ebay hard intake pipe is the exact same as a dejon. It might not look as pretty so if you're really into that kind of stuff/have ridiculous money to spend on simple parts, Dejon is for you. Otherwise just search the classifieds or ebay for a hard intake pipe for your car.

it was only a helpful surgestion and what if something did go wrong with it and then what? a new pipe a new turbo if something isnt welded correctly! which means more money but if you want to buy cheap thats up to you! just dont moan when things break LOL:tease: im not saying there all like that though but you wouldnt want to screw anything up would you! and you get warrenty with them aswell which you dont really get with ebay! i dont do cents but i can do pence ROFL

Dejon is a good choice. Injen is pretty good too though. Ebay ones are pretty cheap and get the job done.

Aggreed. I had a friend that ordered a venom intake about the same time I orderd my Ebay intake. After the install. When we compared them on the cars, I looked at him and said the only difference between them was that his had red couplers that said Venom and cost about $200 more.

yeah, used the ebay when i had my 2g with no problems. How about the FP intake, its well priced and huge!

My opinion only, but I've tried Dejon, Injen, and RRE 2.25" intake elbow. On any turbo EVOIII 16g or smaller they all make similar power. My preference is the little 45* 2.25" elbow from Road Race engineering or buy a 45* elbow for $25 or whatever and chop your stock intake pipe to fit it. I prefer it because I like the part throttle response & power over the other pipes. It just "feels" better everywhere in the power band. Topend power is nearly identical even at +400 h.p. Do not spend big money here, trust me.

A little cutting & dremmeling of the CBV dump tube, some silicon RTV, couple nice hose clamps (ABA etc.), and the 45* elbow and your in business.

Heres a few pics with my badly fitting Injen style intake pipe, then a perfectly fitting RRE pipe.

Virtually identical to the Injen one for a lot less. Do it.

Fifty bucks for one of those isnt bad at all. The name brand pipes usually go for 300 new. I would get all your scheduled maintenence done on the car first to make it last longer. New timing belt, water pump, oil pump, remove balance shafts, thermostat, oil, coolant, get an alignment, check all your ball joints and suspension bushings for wear/breakage, and just make sure the car isnt gonna fall apart on you. Make sure the compression is good on it and fix any oil leaks that you might have. Flush out the transmission while youre at it.

Once you have all of that done, youre ready to turn up the boost and start modding. Dont get a blow off valve that vents to the atmosphere. A stock 1g bov is gonna be the best thing for you until you get ready to boost past 20psi. Good luck with it.

alright thanks alot guys. if you got anymore ideas of small upgrades weather it be performance of just for looks too, let me hear some ideas.

If youre just starting out with modding cars, do bolt on stuff first. 14b turbo, walbro fuel pump, manual boost controller, intake and exhaust should net you some good power.

Go over the maintenance stuff first. When i had a 2g, I had a very similar ebay intake and it worked pretty well. The couplers were kinda flimsy but other than that i thought it was a good buy. Increased turbo noise quite a bit as well as a noticeable power gain

The eBay copy of the Dejon is so accurate, it even has the same off-center core in the casting so the rear wall's almost twice the thickness of the rear. And no, it doesn't matter.

I just purchased my 1995 Eclipse Gst. Its in perfect condition with one problem all stock. im a little low on cash so am looking to do some small upgrades at the time. ive been on ebay looking at all the intake. coldair, short ram. any input would be appreciated.

eBay Motors: 95 96 97-99 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GSX GST TURBO AIR INTAKE (item 120365190065 end time Jan-22-09 17:11:30 PST)

good or too cheap^?

It looks great, I own one as the pics show. It also fits very badly, pushing the MAF sensor nearly 4-6" to the left and sitting way too high. What will work is chopping the pipe in half, porting it out a little, then cutting 2" or so off in the middle and rewelding it together.
