i was wondering if anyone out there has any luck with ebay 16g turbos? anyone with good dyno numbers or 1/8 mile? just curious. i have a ebay big 16g turbo/mani, and i'm in the process of dyno/tuning.....? hoping to get good numbers....!!!thanks

I have one too...only have 500 miles on it but seeing peak boost at 22.5psi....feels good and so far so good....hoping it'll last at least another 2k miles...than off the eBay 20g :) haha

thats a pretty long way i guess for ebay turbo, but did you have any dyno #'s or 1/8 mile time?

It's not a race car, why do I care about HP number or 1/8 mile numbers? It is a daily driver. I put an Ebay turbo to replace a trashed stock turbo, not to be a race car driver. If i was building a purpose built car I would have spent $5000 on a top of the line massive turbo. I have no intentions of racing anyone with the car.

I got the car from some lead foot teenage clown that thought it was a race car, that is why the motor and entire front end was junk at 75,000 miles..

My buddys is already going out and is as floppy as a limp dick. He has less than 5000 miles on the turbo. They are just junk. MHI all the way. Im running 30+psi and I know someone hitting 40psi without failure.

Everyone who owns a name brand turbo will tell you the ebay turbos are junk, and 90% or more of the people who ACTUALLY run ebay turbos have little to no problems with them. The things you hear are usually " My friend's friend's brother had one and it blew up on him.", but never really direct sources.

There are tons of people running them locally here and I haven't seen any threads pop up on my local forum about "my ebay turbo just failed". If you order an ebay turbo, just check it out before you install it. If it binds, has shaft play, etc.. it will fail, but that is true with any turbo.

Yes there are success stories of people who claim to have run the ebay 16g turbos for X amount of miles with no problem and stand by it, but there are also a great amount of users who have failure stories.

On the other hand, all MHI 16g owners will hardly if ever have any stories about failure, assuming it was installed properly.

Just something to consider.

Ebay turbo lasted four days! about 100 miles, kept getting 20 psi boost pikes. very disappointed!

You get what you pay for. And just because its ebay doesnt mean its bad. If you pay 40 for a new ebay turbo dont expect much but ive seen firsthand some good quailty turbos bought off of ebay. I think the reason JUS said they are sink/swim is balancing issues as well. Most of these are massed produced and im sure there are a few bad eggs that sneak past QC it happens in the parts biz. I worked at Oreillys and sold made in USA parts off the shelf that were bad.

Pay the Extra money and get one new, why have to worrie each time you drive your car, That your turbo is going to make it or not. It could cost you more in the end.

The numbers should be the same as a regular(real) b16g, its the exact same turbo outside.

no the real mhi 16g turbos , are diffrent, they have better bearings, and are made of better metal etc.

and people your not going to get 40+psi on a 16g, and besides why would you wanna run any more than 30psi. there just not efficiant enough to hold up to much .

they only flow so much air.

Yeah, there's definitely no guarantee that won't happen, no matter how good QC is, stuff can happen whether it's in shipping or who knows what.

The NAPA stuff I buy says "Made in China" right on the box, but I don't know about Oreillys, since I don't buy stuff there very often because the people who work at my local store don't seem like they have ever even looked under the hood of any car :ohdamn: and most of the ones at the NAPA store here are pretty good. I haven't yet decided whether the stuff at NAPA is half-decent or crap though.

Old thread same topic. I'm running a eBay evo3 16g but the first thing I had done to the turbo was have it balanced, ported, clipped. I'm running a constant 20psi.
So far no play just fun. I've walked on my buddy's 04 sti stock (loud ass bov and exhaust). Which isn't bad considering a full weight car with a auto tranmission and a eBay turbo (with supporting mods). I'm confident it will last until I can find a big side mount intercooler and a 68hta (like the sleeper stock look).

I've been running an ebay 16g since early 2012, Bought it used and with shaft play just as a temp turbo but havent managed to blow it up running 21psi and doing 13.4 et 1/4 mile the first time at the track june 2013.
