They said the new one will be less than $200. It will include a new cable and chip. This is from the dsmlink forums:
We've discussed it, sure. But nothing absolutely final has been set. There are two cases, 1G and 2G. For 2G users, we know we have to get the adapter back in here. We replace that with a whole new native USB cable. Side note: We would also need to continue to offer a serial port version of the cable as well, but how that's going to work exactly isn't finalized.
We would then really like to get the 2G chips back in here too. But after having gone through that whole "please send your chip back after you receive the package from us" thing with the 2G upgrade, I know how unreliable people will be with that.
For the 1G...here's the catch...you'll have to send us the 1G memory board and cable back! For 2G guys, they can keep the chip temporarily. But for 1Gs, there's no option. We have to have the memory board and cable up front. Sucks, but there's no other option that we want to deal with. We could do core charges, but that's honestly a tracking hassle we don't have time for.
Last time was $50, yes. Of course, that was an entirely different release and this one will need to be significantly more than that. We couldn't even really sell the *cables* for $50, much less the entire upgrade package. New cables, new flash device, new EPROM code, and new laptop application....ugh. It's going to be closer to $200 unfortunately.

There are other posts talking about it but that basically says it.
