Dsmlink V3

They said the new one will be less than $200. It will include a new cable and chip. This is from the dsmlink forums:

but have you guys discussed how current DSMlink users are going to recieve v3?

We've discussed it, sure. But nothing absolutely final has been set. There are two cases, 1G and 2G. For 2G users, we know we have to get the adapter back in here. We replace that with a whole new native USB cable. Side note: We would also need to continue to offer a serial port version of the cable as well, but how that's going to work exactly isn't finalized.

We would then really like to get the 2G chips back in here too. But after having gone through that whole "please send your chip back after you receive the package from us" thing with the 2G upgrade, I know how unreliable people will be with that.

For the 1G...here's the catch...you'll have to send us the 1G memory board and cable back! For 2G guys, they can keep the chip temporarily. But for 1Gs, there's no option. We have to have the memory board and cable up front. Sucks, but there's no other option that we want to deal with. We could do core charges, but that's honestly a tracking hassle we don't have time for.

Any estimate on the amount to upgrade? Wasn't it $50.00 last time?

Last time was $50, yes. Of course, that was an entirely different release and this one will need to be significantly more than that. We couldn't even really sell the *cables* for $50, much less the entire upgrade package. New cables, new flash device, new EPROM code, and new laptop application....ugh. It's going to be closer to $200 unfortunately.

There are other posts talking about it but that basically says it.

It's deffinately worth it. Even if it didn't require a new cable it would still be worth it just for the new features that will be available. Before anybody asks again, I'm not going through a 16+ page thread to get the features for you.

I agree, considering the time and effort put into it etc. It is most defently worth it. Anyone who wants to whine about the price should go buy a pos SAFC and learn to be happy with it.

Im about to purchase v2, and if v3 comes out 2 months later, so be it. Its worth every penny. Also, I see no reason to complain, this is not EA Games, or VALVE with hundreds of people typing away. Its a few guys, who are risking there LIVES and reputation to put out a quality product that works. They can 1, put out a crap product and have everyone blow a motor and before you know it mega uber lawsuit fiesta. Or 2, put out a uber balla product that might take some time, but they know its a safe product, and one that can be used on a large variety of cars and setups. I think all in all if, and when it comes out. It will be an amazing piece of software. I think they should even slap in some stickers. I would wear that badge. :thumb:

Why would you buy v2 halfway through 2008 and then shell out more dough for v3 when it comes out in the next 6 months?? I mean if you just can't wait and your car needs to be tuned then go for it, but I think that would be pretty dumb. :notgood:

I used to use ECU+ and I always wondered why GM Maf translation wasn't integrated into DSMlink.. Anyways I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled for a definite release date for v3, and I have my fingers crossed for speed density :dsm:

Speed density will be available, but not right away. There won't be a need for the maft once v3 comes out either.

I actually talked directly to DSMLink when I bought it last week. They said that they lowered the price a little recently because they're trying to make it so that the combined price of DSMLink V2 + Upgrade will equal the price of V3. I don't know where these $200 numbers are coming from. I don't think DSMLink V3 will be $700.

Tom and Dave have both said numerous times that itwill be close to $200. This is to upgrade if you already have v2. This isn't the price for just buying v3 plus the regular price. Did you see the quote I left a couple of possts up? That came from Tom replying to the v3 thread on dsmlink forums. You have access to link forums you can go read it.

That's a lot, wow. I really didn't see it being that much.

It's not really that much. I mean even if it was $700 for it new, if you compare it to other EMS systems, it's cheap. AEM is listed for $1900 new, now you can get it for quite a bit less than that, but it's still close to double DSMlink, yes i know it's more in depth and what not, but with dsmlink you get a program you can actually understand and it's much more user friendly, and it will satisfy the needs of the majority of the DSM community. Anyway, I for one will happily pay $200 and enjoy the fruits of Tom and Dave's labor. :rocks:

Anything new?

Not really. Myself and other current dsmlink users tend to leave Tom and Dave alone so they have more time to work on v3 instead of answering our questions about what it will be like.

The only thing worth mentioning is they hired a new person to get it out sooner.

It will have load based tuning AND the current style that dsmlink has. You will be able to choose between the two.

They will be able to convert a 1G non eprom ecu to work with it.

There are a few people testing it right now for them to report any problems.

Those are the big things I can remember.

Just for 1g right now, but they will have to change that. Since 1g eproms are easier to find IMO. The only problem will be that you will have to buy v3 which may be more in itself than buy the eprom converter for around $200 give or take. Thats the same as buying an eprom.

...They said the are going to add it, it's just a software update I'm sure. That being said, it makes perfect since, they want to make sure there are no issues or bugs in the software for they unleash something like that.
