Myself and a couple of other New England DSM members want to test the waters about bringing back "DSM powered" class to the DSM Shootout.

It was a great class (in thought), but 10 years ago, there weren't enough running swap projects to support that class. I think that in 2010, we have a LOT more running candiates!

Here a link to our thread on Buschur Racing forum:

What do you guys think?

I posted this on a couple of forum, but I never get tired of seeing surprised projected, which tends to come out of nowhere! Lets find those guys!

So if I'm reading this right, you guys are talking about non DSM bracket that is 4g63 powered? I think it would be interesting, last year there was that sick rx7 that was 4g63 powered, and i am thinking that sebring was decently quick as well. But i am understanding what they are saying with the not having enough people for it

First of all, please do not use the word "bracket" ;), (we are trying to avoid brackets...) but yes, you go the right idea!

Using last year's cars as an example:

- RX7 would stay in the quick 16
- the Sebring would be in "DSM powered"
- Matt's 3 series, is not that straight forward. The way it was last year, still running low 10's, it should be in the DSM powered. But this year, it will likely be in the 9's, so it would most move over to the Q16 class.

I am not sure how to decide how to make that cut-off point between the "DSM powered" and Quick 16.

Obviously, it is much more prestigious to win the Quick 16. So perhaps fast guys would naturally gravitate to the Quick 16? Perhaps we can make winning fee in DSM powered be so little, that they wouldn't want to win it :).

Anything sub 10 sec should be in the quick class IMHO.:)

Go old school and run a predetermined index??? 10.00, 10.5 or so?

Leon, I think this would be the crux of the problem. Many of the "DSM powered" would want to be (and IMO should be) in the quick 16. If you're not going to (whispers) bracket (whispers) them, the competitiveness of the brac.....er "class" would be compromised because of the range of vehicles that you would have.

Mark,

I think that you are missing a point here, no one will be excluded from the Q16 class!!! So, those fast 4G63 cars can still race there!

This is for the slower 4G63 swap cars, which do not really have a chance of qualifying for the Q16 and are now stuck in brackets. Are there enough of such cars to form a class of their own? I think so, but then, my perception could be a bit altered by all the 4G63 swap cars in New England.

So main purpose for this thread is to get such guys out of hiding ;). This way, we can decide if this class is viable on its own.

my buddy has an fc rx7 that if is done in time would probably be in this class/ He also is swapping a 4g63 into an integra that would be in this class but im not sure if they will be done/lined out by august.

No I think I got ya on that. I didn't mean to insinuate that they would now be disqualified from the Q16. I was just noting that those quick cars would rather run Q16 than the other bracket, That would leave the rest of the cars to run the DSM powered bracket;

But of course, that would certainly be up to the 13 second runner, if he felt he had a chance against a 10-11 second runner (which as we all know, anything can happen on the track. Remember the pizza delivery guy a couple years back). Not looking to rain on anybody's parade or anything, just seemed like the obvious problem (which was why brackets were created in the first place.....oops, nevermind).

But I would be curious as well to see how many of these are out there hiding. As well as where they ended up putting their power plant (the ironic 4g63 powered Mustang comes to mind, LOL).
