If you want your DSM to last there must be no budget... speaking from experience, after 3 engine builds. You can probably find one used cheaper, but other than going used there really is no other route. I paid $345 for Lite, it does everything I need it to. You can't really expect to get anything cheaper for a complete engine management system that allows you to change timing, fuel, etc...
 
I just started using it. Link is alot to take in but the videos on ECM link show you how to get started.
 
I have v2.5 and i found it quite easy to use once i started playing with it.
I am upgrading to v3 because i want to use some of the other options and i will be going north of 400hp i hope so might need some of the extra stuff in it. You might be ok with just picking up someones 2.5. I was going to just upgrade cause its only 200 bucks..
