I just went through this with a new laptop.

Turn the ignition on.

Plug the car into the laptop, with DSMLink closed.

Start-> My Computer (right click) ->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager->Ports.

You'll see something like Keyspan (Com 4), or whatever brand of adapter you're using if you're like most of us and using USB Obviously you'll need to install a driver for the adapter if using USB.

Open dsmlink. Go to Edit-> Options -> Configure, and select the port that it said in device manager (Com 4 in the example).

Click OK

Enjoy.

Correctly specified by bigbeans, you need to identify the port which is being assigned to keyspan USB-Serial adapter first. Use that specific port to connect to DSMlink

i had the same problem.

easy fix, exzactly... you have to choose the correct usb port in the program, before it will work.

it took me a week to realize this same problem
